Help - Harddrive to Harddrive Transfer

I have no clue how to do this, so I would most appreciate some links to tutorials (with pictures) on how to do so, please.

I would like to transfer the music, files, and pictures I have from the family computer to my own personal one.

after you've installed the HDD into the host computer you can either copy/paste the data or use seagate disc wizard found on their website to get the data you require. if you need more instruction post up what you know how to do and where you get stuck.

Both on a Network??? or a cross over cable will work.

Or you can put the hard one of the hard drives in a computer and transfer it that way.

As long as you're not trying to copy software, just going across the network would probably be your best bet. There are hundreds of guides on networking computers around the Internet... Find one you can easily follow and setup a little network between the computers. Then just copy and paste the files and you're done.

I'd need the internet on both computers to do that, no? I can't do that right now...

I guess I'll just have to do the Harddrive thing... tomorrow now, considering the time.

no you don't have to have both of the computers on the internet, they need to be on a network, a router will work.

Take the old hard drive and install it into your new computer. Boot into Windows and transfer all the files to the hard drive you'll be using on the new PC. Then put the old hard drive back into the old computer.

Ohhh. I actually took the new one out of my computer for that same process, but backward from how you said it. I'm going to be doing it later today, likely after work.

OKAY. NETWORKING. I have a wireless card and router. Installing the Router as I type this, then upstairs to set up and install the card CD before... stopping to figure out where to plug the card into the computer. Haha...

Help?

EDIT 1: OKAY. I got the card and router set up... and I have it set up to share the folders I want... but for some reason when I go to access them on my computer it says it's not allowed. I even configured the McAffee firewall on my computer to allow it to do so... so I'm confused.

EDIT 2: Okay, so it says it's the firewall on the Family PC.... which, as it stated when I installed the Router, was some NVidia ActiveArmor Firewall... how do I access that to allow it to share over the IP address range the Router gave me?

I think that it's called NVIDIA Forceware Network Access Manager in add/remove programs. If it's not there then it might be a BIOS option.
