My Compaq Presario SR1923wm was running fine until 2 or 3 weeks ago, then it slowed down. I have run spyware and virus scans, registery cleaner, defragmented and system restore and it is still really slow. It changed from a Hare to a Tortoise. I would appreciate all help and suggestions. Should I post a Highjack this log or what. I know there are things I should get rid of, but I dont know which. Please help to change my Tortoise back to a Hare.
Thank You;

How suick does your computer load at the startup? Is it slow as soon as you ahve windows going, or does it slow down gradually from hours of use?

If anything, you have a lot of programs set to run at startup, and even though you arent going to need them or even use them for that day or longer, they are running and taking up resources. (how much ram do you have, and what os are you running?)

Try clossing processes you dont need running and see if your comp speeds up at all. Also set what programs you have run at startup and see what difference that makes.

It's slow at start up, still slow 10 hours later. I have stopped some startup programs last week, nothing. I'm showing more available physical memory than my other comps, yet they run fine and fast. I have added a new mouse and some new software, may have added some unneeded program with them, don't know. Don't want to unload a program I might need.

for me my comp slowed down a bit when i installed avast antivirus, i think it scans all files i open so it takes a second longer now.. maybe your situation is something similar to this?

Get CCleaner from www.ccleaner.com and wipe your computer clean. You may also want to clean up your registry with Eusing Registry Cleaner even though you've already cleaned out the registry (can't remember the homepage, google it... I would but the net is working kinda slow here :()
