Help! Having problems posting, trying to pinpoint issue

Hey guys, my computer isn't posting (under certain circumstances) and I'm trying to pinpoint exactly what the issue is. Soooo, let me describe what's going on.

When I turn on my computer, everything turns on (which leads me to believe its not the PSU), but it doesn't post, and I have the Crucial Ballistix Tracers, and the pattern on the LEDs are not what they are usually and they're just kind of stuck. I had 4 sticks, and 2 of them seemed dead, so I was using 2gb for a while, then today, another one went bad it seems. If I take out all the ram, the computer will post (the beeps that says no ram).

What's odd to me is that on Orthos mixed test, everything was fine (although I haven't run memtest, will do soon). I'm actually underclocking my ram some also so if it is the ram that's fried, I'm not sure what caused it. Honestly, I have no idea what's causing this. Could it be that there's something wrong with the motherboard? Or is the ram simply dead?

Anyways, thanks for any help, and if I've left some important information out (which I probably have) let me know! Thanks!

Alright, just tested with memtest. With the stick of ram that was working, all the tests went fine w/o errors through 7 passes. Then I shut off the comp and replaced the ram that went dead earlier that morning. Interestingly, nothing was wrong with it and it went through 7 passes just fine, so I'm really at a loss for what's going on. I did put it down .1 volt to 1.8 but my ram is supposed to be at 2.2 (although supposedly Ballistix are infamous for overheating easily). So anyways, I'm testing both sticks together, and so far through 3 passes, no problems.

So, I'm really not sure what the problem is. This happens whenever my computer is shut off and I turn it on, sometimes, it simply won't boot and won't get any beeps. But when I boot up w/o any ram, I'll get the no ram beeps, but it seems odd that ram that turned out to be perfectly fine would cause the computer to not post at all. I'm suspicious now that it isn't the ram, any ideas?

Thanks for any help!

Yeah, I'm still using that motherboard. That's odd, it was fine for almost a year and a half. And I THINK the ram I'm using is part of the qualified vendors list..

The 1GB stick by Crucial is listed as BL12864AA804 and the one I bought is BL2KIT12864AL804. I'm not sure if there's a real difference between these model numbers, or it's just because the one I ordered came as a pair.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, when I was looking at my ram slots and there are some spots that seem a little faded. I don't think that it's a burn mark or anything like that, but thought I should put it out there.

Well all those sticks are suppost to using 2.1/2.2V so running them under that at 1.8V, unless you really set the timing up and back clock them will probably make it unstable.

This has happened under both circumstances, in which either case, the timings were what the sticks are supposed to be at and whatnot. Anyway, I've done a bit of googling and came up with numerous people reporting that Ballistix isn't very stable at the supposed 2.2V, so that's the reason why at least now I have it under the voltage.

Alright, well, everything was fine for a week or two, and yet again after starting up the computer, the computer didn't post. Just a week before I had run memtest and every stick was perfectly fine, so I'm not sure if it's a case of faulty ram. Only one stick worked, I tried every slot/stick variation but only 1 stick worked. After waiting a day or two, I tried putting the stick of ram that didn't work previously in again, and the computer booted just fine. I'm really at a loss as to why this is happening or what might be the cause of it. Also, it seems to only happen while I start boot while the computer was off, because it doesn't happen when I have it in sleep mode and turn it on.

On that note, does it make a difference to the PC health if I just sleep it as opposed to shutting it down entirely?

Thanks for any help!

I would get some new memory and see if that has the same problems. Kornowski is also having troubles with his crucial ballistix

hmm, the two sticks of ram that I'm using now have passed memtest without any problems. is it possible that it's still a ram problem, even with the successful passes on memtest? do you think it could be a mobo problem, maybe not liking all 4 slots used? although this has happened even when using only 2 slots..

i'm not sure,
but if it is the ram you could speak to crucial and get a refund or whatever because i'm pretty sure they have a life time warranty.
