help! my HP computer (semi new) completely erased! i dont know what to do! First the drivers couldn't be identified by the driver profile and then everythign got erased.

stats on comptuer:
HP
2.8ghz intel pentium D
1gb RAM
250gb HD
8gb recovery disk

please help. This is like my life got erased!

Well for one, do not use the computer!!! Reason being is, the data on the hard drive still may be recoverable. By erased, you mean all your data is gone? Are you able to boot into windows? or you simply can't boot? Hard drive died? Accidentally formated?

Even tho the data got erased, it still may be recoverable, since it never is FULLY erased until data is written overtop of it. May cost a lot to recover it though.

well, windows still boots, but its like all the files got erased except windows. I can still do stuff, like downlaod. Its like its brand new.

right now i'm not at my house anymore but at another computer...but i havent told my friend not to use it yet....

Well thats really wierd... I don't know how all your files can disappear, yet, windows stays. I'll go do a little bit of research. Were all your files in one folder or do you mean all your programs and files?

everything. Programs, gone. Files and folders, gone. i'm using windows media edition if that helps....and before this happened the drivers couldn't be found by the computer (sound included).

Are you sure that no-one has messed with your computer? Perhaps changed the hard drive as a practical joke, or reinstalled windows for some reason?

My guess also is that either someone is playing a prank on him or something along along those lines. I've never heard of everything on a hard drive just up and erasing, minus the OS and everything crucial for it to run.

I think the files are just hidden... never heard of a whole hard drive erasing its self but yet, keeps windows.

I tend to agree with Altanore. Just run the windows "restore" feature and set it back to a date that it was running fine.
