Help! I can't play AVI files.

So I have a number of AVI files on my computer (XP) and I can not play them. In fact, whenever I use My Computer to open them up, it says "explorer has performed an illegal operation.." and closes down before I can even click on them. Any possible explanation for this?

That's weird.. maybe you're missing some codecs? You could either try looking for the specific codec you need or download a codec pack. That'll make it playable in WMP. Although you can also use VLC as mentioned above and not have to deal with codecs.
