Help idintifiying my burner problem

I have a HP Pavilion a1340n desktop computer. I take lots of photos and have always burned copies of my files onto CD's or DVD's as a way to "back up" my files. Now my burner will not funtion as before. I'm using the same "roxio" software but now it will not burn any disks. It always stops with an error message telling me that it failed to write. When I click out of the program I then get a message box that says:

MEDIAHUB .EXE APPLICATION ERROR
The instruction at "0x0038bc08" refrenced memory at "0x0070bc28". The memory could not be written. Click to terminate the program.

How do I tell if my problem is software or hardware. Can it be that my burner has simply gone bad? I can still load a disk into the burner and read any disk information....it just will not burn anymore.

Thanks,

I've been doing some more reading and I have found a couple of threads where people claim that Windows media player version "11" will screw up your roxio software??????? They all claim that if you switch back to version 10 your player will burn correctly. Has anyone here heard of this? Is that possible??

Well.....that was indeed my problem!. It seems that version 11 of windows media player somehow messes up your Sonic software. So I went to my add/remove in my control panel and clicked on my windows media player. It asked if I wanted to refer back to a previous version of the player and I said yes. It removed version 11 and replaced it with version 10. I restarted my computer and started up my "Sonic" program. It now burns just like it is suppose to.
The more I read about this the more strange it seemed but it did work for me. I read that version 11 will work fine if you are running "Vista" but if you have "XP" like me, then stick with version 10.

I hope someone else can benefit from this post.
