Help Im New

Hi Im new to this forum i just signed up,
My knowledge of computers is limited and i hope to learn a lot from this site and eventually know what to buy and how to build my own computer.
I currently have a HP Pavillion DV6245US that i upgraded to 2gb of ram. It has vista 32 bit, and a intel core 2 duo t5200, 1.6ghz. Currently i got BSOD and ordered a os disk to rienstall vista, but while my comp is down i want to upgrade my processor. I feel that with only 1.6ghz i am not able to play most of the new games that require 2.4 ghz min. I wanna know if i can upgrade my processor and which one i can buy.

upgrading a the CPU on a prebuilt computer is not a good idea. you're motherboard is most likely very limited. that's not going to be a bad CPU in terms of gaming, from 1.6 -2.4 GHz will yield in a very small performance increase. it's your graphics card that is really the determining factor here.

my advice, save your money now for a new build, don't bother upgrading the one you've got.
 
is this a laptop we're dealing with? if so than upgrading anything but RAM is pretty much out of the question.
