Help installing DVD drive and CD Drive

Hi i need help installing my Lite-on LA-20A1P DVD Player with my other lite-on CD burner. When i first installed it onto my computer yesterday it worked fine i had the DVD jumper on Master and the CD on Slave but then i discovered one of my Hard drives were not detected so i turned off my computer and made sure it was connected and it was. then i turned it back on and my Hard drive was back but both the DVD and CD drives were not listed on my computer. they drives power on and open and eject but my computer wont detect them. my hard drives are plugged in by SATA? cables and the DVD and CD by the 40 pin connector.? so how do i get my stuff connected right? some one please help me thank you!!!
 
Are you sure that all of the devices are connect correctly? SATA should not affect PATA, they are very different things.
 
yes im sure. i opened the device manager folder and my CD drives have a yellow circle with a question mark on them. I unistall them then scan for new hardware and my computer says new hardware found and then installs it then says a problem has occured with the installation or something like thaT?
 
yes i restarted it and i pushed the F10 (i think) button and it gave me an option on what 2 boot from and the CD drives were there.
 
And you can actually boot using them? I knew they would be detected in the BIOS and what not if windows saw them at all, but I'd still like to know they aren't having some minor conflict somehow :-/
 
Did I ever say that :P The drivers have nothing to do with your BIOS. However, if you can't boot your machine using a CD, then you know there's a hardware problem with the drives. If it does boot, then it's probably just windows.
 
This is wierd. Okay so i reinstalled a fresh copy of windows XP 64bit and it read my DVD and CD roms so i put all my programs back on and i installed the same program i did with my other operating system MAGIC DVD RIPPER. and DIVX player and its codecs i was able to use my drives and stuff then i left somewhere came back and my CD and DVD drives were not listed on my computer. So i unistalled magic DVD ripper and the DIVX stuff and now my CD and DVD are working again? so what caused this? the DIVX stuff or the Magic DVD ripper? is this a virus?
 
I seem to get that error too, but that was with XP. Try to get the latest version of codecs, I think older versions are the problem.
