Help Installing Win 3.1

I'm trying to install Windows 3.1 on my old computer and I've got the first disk in but I don't know what to type. If I type "a:" and then "setup", it asks if I want to install DOS again, but I've already got DOS 6.22 installed. Has anyone got a clue?

its been about 7 years since ive had any dealings with 3.1.... there's gotta be an option to opt out of the dos installation, if not just reinstall dos and see if it continues with the installation

You sure you have a good/correct copy of windows 3.1 because it shouldn't ask you to install dos or anything. As you seem to realize, DOS isn't included with 3.1.

I copied disk 1 to another disk and it worked fine! The dusty smell coming out of my old computer is horrible though!
