Help Installing Xp!

I have a computer that just wont install Windows Xp. I've wiped the HDD and reformatted the whole thing to no previal. Every single try I get an error that says "Unable to install ______.dll or _____exe." (the underscores replaced with the filenames) It then gives me the option to retry (enter) or skip that specific file(esc) I then take the disk out and give it a good cleaning and then press Enter.

For some reason unexplained my computer wont run Xp

Its not the Cd drive, as i have tried the discs on a brand new LG DVD-+R(W) (DL), a Lite-on CD-RW drive, a Hp CDRW drive and a Compaq CDROM/DVDROM drives.

BTW, I built the computer myself out of spare parts I had laying around

Specs:
Pentium II processer (not sure how fast)
384 Mb of Ram
10 gb Maxtor
LG DVD-+R(W) (DL)
Compaq CDROM/DVDROM

I've tried messing around with the BIOS options, changing the Drives, hotswapping the HDD into my good computer and it doesnt work.
I've also used 6 different Xp Cd's and Dvd's to try and get it to work, they are: Windows Xp Home Sp2, Windows Xp Home Sp1, Windows Xp Pro Sp2 (OEM disc), Windows Xp Pro (no Sp), Windows XP Borg Edition V5.0 Final, Windows Media Centre(last resort, bad idea, look at specs).

Also 2 of the Xp install disc were factory Discs, so its not that my computer is being picky about the media it was burnt onto.

If anybody has any ideas please tell me.

Also im pretty good with computers so dont be afraid to give me some ideas:P

I just finished talking to my Uncle the expert, and hes bringing over a Windows 98 SE disc, to see if i can install that and then try upgrading to Xp.

Please post all ideas on how i can get this working

XP really wont run very well on that system anyways. Xp works at least on 512 of ram i mean it works with 256 just be prepared to wait hours to do anything. not sure about the pentium 2. It might not work bc of the system. Also 10 gig is really small...usually people partition 10 gigs for the os itself.

Yeah, i know, it was more of a project than anything, so im gonna use it mostly for word processing and stuff like that.:)
Thanks for the tip though,
