help! is this the right ram for me?

what if i decided to keep as is? 768mb... what if i stay it like that would it be harmful? 2 stick of 256 and 1 stick of 512 = 768mb.... is that ok??? or it will have a negative side effect?

Yes you can go with 768. Yo might as well remove one of the 256s, it isn't being used anyway if you have 768mb.

i was thinking to switch my newly bought 512mb stick with my 2 stick of 256mb on my dell.

my emachine use this kind of ram http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.asp?mtbpoid=3D4BDCAFA5CA7304 and my dell use this kindhttp://www.crucial.com/store/listparts.aspx?model=Dimension+8400+Series

if i trade my newly 512mb PC3200 with my dell 2x 256mb PC2 will it work? will my dell 256mb work on my emachine and will my 512 pc3200 work on my dell?

No. Your Dell uses DDR2 and your e-machine uses DDR, they aren't compatible.
