help lost hard drive

hi i have a western digital wd1200 caviar sata hard drive, i have been using it for roughly 2 years and it recently began to restart everytime after the windows logo would appear, how do i fix this? or if i cant how can i recover my data saved ?
 
I would let the HD sit overnight, powered off. Then start the comuter up, and try to save your documents quickly before it has a chance to mess up.

If it only screws up in windows you can always copy the contents over in dos, before windows starts. Get a boot disk from www.bootdisk.com win98se works good for me.
 
my computer is windows xp, also i have had a new hard drive in my computer for the last 2 months as it doesnt boot past the windows logo it just reboots, how do i save data from dos? does that prgram cost? thanks
 
you cant use a 98 boot disk if the file system on the hard rive is ntfs as it wont recognise it. Do you have anywhere else to put it? like another hard drive?
 
yeh i have 2 hard drives one is the broken one and one is a spare i am using as a temporary one but it has windows xp on it and stuff
