Hi guys, im new here on this forum and i was wondering if you could help me with making my computer better for gaming.

I am currently playing world of warcraft and i get really bad FPS.. Im playing everything on low settings as low as you can get and im playing at 15 FPS and really REALLY low in big raids it just makes me wanna stop playing.

My budget is $500 for any upgrades i may need.

I asked for a decent computer for my birthday and this is what my mom comes up with... oh well dont wanna sell it because it was a gift so im wondering if i can make it any better...

Thanks in advance for the help guys!!!

Most likely you need a dedicated video card as you only have onboard graphics. But you would also need to upgrade your power supply.

I'm way new at this, and you should *definitely* wait for advice from people who are better at this, but with $500, I'm thinking you could update your CPU, PSU, and Memory, while also adding a dedicated graphics card.

The pros can advise you on what specific parts, but if it's in the budget maybe a 3 or 4 core Athlon, and definitely another 2 gigs of memory.

you're pretty much screwed unless you want to buy a new case too and reinstall everything. that is a slim case which can't fit jack really. if you want to upgrade to something good you're looking at something like this on the lower end

and you can only use one of those 2 sticks cuz the comp only supports up to 4gb's, but that costs the same as 4gb's so you can sell the other stick for about what you're paying.

and i would recomend contacting their support and seeing if it will accept a cpu like this

but really you might want to look at saving a little more after this and just buying a new mobo too and a new 64-bit operating system disk for 100 cuz right now all that's remaining is the hdd and the mobo.

Due to the fact that your current case is small for factor, you have two options.
1. Purchase a low profile ready video card (Cheapest.)
AMD Options:

Nvidia Options:

2. Purchase a new case, power supply, and video card (Most logical for longevity.) In this case look at Johnny's post :)

Please be sure to look in you case to see how much power you PSU can output to verify it will be enough for any option you may choose.

Basically what we are trying to tell you is this. Most graphics cards are THIS big, your computer is a small form factor computer so it can only fit a graphics card that is THIS big.

Now that we got that issue out of the way lets talk why you need a graphics card. Basically you are currently running off of a integrated graphics solution. Integerated graphics are normally know for taking up much needed RAM. They also can't dedicate very many cycles to processing things a graphics card normally does (i.e. Physics based math, Rendering frames, etc...) With a graphics card, it has a dedicated chip called a GPU that only process physics, rendering frames, etc. and it has it's own dedicated memory that is on the card so you don't take up the computers RAM.

Okay so lets talk buses :) basically if you look at the specs of your computer you will see that it has a PCI-E x 16 bus. This is what you will use to hook a graphics card to your system to get you some better frame rates in WOW.

So lets talk about your options, what we are basically telling you is you can either buy a low profile ready graphics card from a site like newegg, tigerdirect, or amazon and install it in your system. The other option would be to basically build a computer from the ground up and use maybe your current motherboard and hard disk drive. The latter of the two being the most practical in terms of longevity; However, due to the fact that you don't know a great deal about computers it might be better to just spend $75-$100 on a low profile ready card and just install that.

If you need assistance on how to install a graphics card please review the sticky about building your first computer, it has great pictures :)

Dumbed down.

You have a really slim case. Better video cards will not fit it.

You have a really small power supply, pretty sure its just a 220W. Will not power a better video card.

So to upgrade to a good video card. You will need a new case so it will fit. Plus you will need a new better power supply to power the card. So your looking at a case/Video card and power supply.

A midgrade video card, like a 6850 will run around 150 bucks. A good 500W power supply will run around 40/50 bucks. A desent case will run around 50 bucks. So your looking at spending alittle less then the computer cost to start with.

and he also needs more than 2gb's of ram, and a new cpu would help with WOW but is not needed really.
