Help Me Build a Desktop $1000-1200 budget

If you are planning to help me out here I just want to go ahead and thank you in advance.

Ok, so here is the deal, I asked my friend to build me a new desktop computer and I gave him a $1000 budget. I also told him I wanted 8gb of ram and the i7 930 processor, which may have been contradictory to my budget.

This pc will be used mainly for editing HD video, along with some light gaming.

The total ended up being about $1300, which didn't even include monitors, mouse, keyboard, or speakers (all of which I am not factoring into my budget)

Basically everyone I have talked to has told me that I should go with the i5 750, and maybe the RAM and SSD drive is overkill. I would like to keep the RAM.

My mission for somebody out there is to widdle this price down to about $1000. Any advice on hardware in general would be appreciated though. Thanks for your time.
 
The budget really isn't strict at all, I just want to avoid overpaying for too much stuff. Ill probably get a different video card thanks for the advice.
 
Personally, Gigabyte or EVGA are good choices. Also, if the budget isn't too strict I'd look to get a 200 series video card for an extra $100. It's well worth it in my opinion and helps put off upgrading for another year or so.

I really won't be that much into gaming but i will take that into consideration. The only new game i really want to get is civilization 5
 
Understandable. A good positive of EVGA cards is that they usually provide a 2 year or lifetime warranty. That particular card is lifetime and the warranty is always nice to have.
 
If you want to cut some money off you can ditch the sound card. Your motherboard already has that built in.

Your ram is a bit pricey but if you really need the 8gb you could get 2 of these kits and just set the speed to 1600 in the bios.

Also, 8gb of ram is a waste on an X58 based system

The X-fi xtreme Audio isnt even a true X-fi, let alone a decent sound card. If you want a decent sound card look into the Asus Xonar or HT Omega line of cards. The X-fi line is more geared toward gaming than audio quality. In fact, the onboard audio of many boards is just as good as the software X-fi's(the xtreme audio is a software X-fi), onboard won't come close to a hardware x-fi or the offerings from asus/ht omega though.

That said, i would disregard that build list. If you are video editing the Phenom II X6 1055T would probably be a better choice since most video editing software is multithreaded, and the Phenom II X6 is more powerful than an i7 in heavily multithreaded programs:
