hi
sorry about any confusion in my first post, i am a real newbie but a quick learner.i am 60 an have always wanted to build a gaming computer, so here i am its all about learning and having fun.
i have already ordered a Dell S2309 23 inch monitor, now i would like some advice on the rest
i live in the uk
i want the computer for average gaming, watching films surfing and music
my budget after my monitor is £500-600
i would like enough room to maybe expand later
many thanks

this is off topic, but, wow, i never knew that some played video games at 60! my dad always says its a kid thing lol.

already have a good cd dvd external writer, but at that price it wouldn't hurt to have a internal one. thanks

yeh get it while its cheap!

not a bad build that, i mean do your research... you might be able to get cheaper from else where!

i just like overclockers cos they are very quick to get the parts to you

thanks
i doubt i can get them much cheaper especially with the offers. obviously the motherboard and case are compatible

does that MB support xfire? that would leave room for upgrade. 4850 in xfire is pretty awesome, or so i heard :D

no the board doesnt, he would have to pay more for a board that has full x16 crossfire

i have 4850's in crossfire and they are vry good indeed

i know i will sound like an idiot for asking this, but i was looking at that processor, and it says it's 2.66ghz...is that per core or what? i mean my pos compaq that won't run media player without catching fire is a 2.5. just curious, thanks

its per core, there are more factors to a cpu's performance.. cache, fsb etc etc!

your pos compaq would prob still be a pos even with 6ghz clock lol

hi funkysnair
just to let you know the first of my parts started to arrive today, thanks for your help. could you recommend a decent sound card to go with the rest of my build, nothing too specialist.

hey good going!

you will be happy!

not sure on the sound crad, do you have a good speaker setup?

if you dont then there prob wont be a need for the card, you would get decent sound from onboard!

however if you have a good speaker setup, create a new thread and tell them what speakers you have and your price range!

i got the asus rampage formula motherboard which come with a graphics card and ive never actually bought a sound card!

hi
no i don't have any speakers, as long as there is enough noise coming through i will leave the card. i take it the cpu cooler goes on the motherboard.

hi funkysnair
just to let you know i now have my monitor, case, hard drive and cpu. cpu cooler, motherboard and psu arrived today. now all i need is my graphics card, which i will order this week. found a 4 year old computer in the attic which i had forgotten about it has a creative audigy 2 soundcard i am pondering if i should install it or go for whats on the motherboard. as i have some extra bays in the case i was thinking about what else to install in the near future i could install a tv card but the computer is in the same room as the main tv. i was trying to work out how to answer your message, i know i have to click on view conversation but there doesn't seem to be any reply option.

hi
i would like to thank everyone in the forum who helped me through my first build
especially funkysnair and bomberboysk. i know all my questions seemed pretty dumb at the time but all your patience paid off, i would not mind starting a second build now after what I've learn t. not that I'm going to. thanks again
