Computer Specifications for a Budget Build

I am building this computer for a Christmas present. I want to spend around 400 dollars cheaper if possible.

Case-Mid ATX design tons of extra fans is not necessary

Motherboard-integrated video card nothing to extreme, also want bios to allow for easy overclock and tweaking

CPU- I have a phenom X2 555 BE and really like chip and the ability to unlock the extra cores is awesome. However, if you have anyother chips that you think would perform better I would deffinetly consider them.

DVD/CDRW Burner- Nothing to fancy just looking for a good price

Hard Drive- At least 500GB 7200RPM and a good price

Memory- 4GB Ram

PSU- Was thinking around 500W would be sufficient for this build

This is just what I have laid out for myself if you guys have any other reccomedations that would be great. This will be my first complete build so I want to make sure with you guys (the professionals :)) that everything should be compatible and the build should go smoothly.

No my parents said that they will buy all the software my only job is to build a efficient affordable computer. That directtiger is a great deal my only problem is that it is only 2.2 ghz is that a fast enough processor?
 
Clock speed means nothing against newer tech. a 4GHz Pentium 4 will still lose against a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo. Has nothing to do with the number of cores either.

If the 555BE unlocks no problems just keep it.
 
If I understand correctly, you already have a spare 555BE that unlocks and is stable?

Just making sure, because not having to buy a CPU would change the build up quite a bit.

No I currently have a 555 BE in my current rig and really like it. So I still need to buy an additional one for my new rig.

Thanks for all the replies I will definitely consider some of your suggestions! I am a little confused about the heat sinks do they come with your motherboard or case or are your required to buy them separately?

Also if you guys don't mind maybe pointing me in the direction of a good guide for first time builders that would be great!
 
The stock heatsink and fan that comes with the CPU usually is fine, however you mentioned something about tweaking and overclocking? Doing that makes it run hotter therefore getting an aftermarket cooler is better. Heat kills a CPU faster than anything..except maybe water..lol

There's a stock heat sink bundled with your processor, unless you get an OEM model. They're adequate for stock clocks, nothing more.

If you keep your 555, will you need to buy a powerful processor for the new rig, or just something simple to make it run?
