Help me build without lagging. One computer. 6 monitors setup

Hi, i am currently shopping around for a new desktop. But i have a crazy setup. So i have no idea what to do.

I had 6 monitors running off my desktop. But it was horribly lagging! It couldn't handle running 6 monitors so i had use 4 monitors instead, and its still somewhat slow.

Why do i need 6 monitors?

Well because i have aol messenger, yahoo messenger, 3 msn messengers running on monitor 1.

As well as winamp and i download music videos not mp3's, playing the music videos on monitor 2.

Also on monitor 3 i am running my tv tuner. And watching the music channel on mute. So i can record music videos.

On monitor 4 is the screen i keep all the instant messenger conversations.

On monitor 5 & 6 is where i surf the net and work on photoshop, dreamweaver, sonar and 3d max. I don't play games

Plus extra things like google desktop, weather watch, ultramon, calender.

So as you can see all this stuff was running on a:

Acer Aspire - Pentium D 820 2.8 GHz
windows xp media centre 2005
2 x 500 Gig harddrives
1 pci-e 8600 gts video card
2 x pci 128mb video cards
2 Gig Ram(can't fit anymore ram in it)
6 x lcd monitors 15"-20"

I have switched my setup around and am now using 2 computers, for 3 screens and other for 3 screens because im sick of the lagging when i open photoshop and other various programs.

I would love to go back to using 1 computer.
Is there a computer which will be able to handle all the multi-tasking that i do?

Or should i stick to using 2 computers? or buy navida quadro's? im confused and stressed

help! Advice from computer experts please :)

Wow, you do a crazy amount of stuff on your PC!!!

You could always run synergy between PCs and do different things on each one.

Otherwise I'd reccomend going quad core.

Yeah, you definitely want a quad core.

For the monitor issues, I would recommend using 2x (Or even 3x if its possible) ATI video cards with CrossFire.

The quality of the cards is up to you. I would go with getting a cheaper card and a good card. Running the monitors with the messengers on the cheapo, and everything else on good card.

The new i7 processors would be perfect for you, seeing as how they combine multi-core tech with HyperThreading. Thats the way to go so your processor can keep up.

Got a budget in mind? Ill try makin a build for ya.

wow...am I the only one that thinks that is retarded and overkill? For starters, who needs 3 msn messengers running at once?

synergy? I've never heard of that. Is it the same as extended desktop? can my mouse go from one screen to another?

That'd be great!

my budget would be around no more than 1,400$

quad-core proc, and three way SLi/Crossfire.

I've heard that sli/crossfire is mostly used for gaming and no nessessary for multiple monitors

retarded... possibly... but so much FUN

as for the 3 messengers.

1 for personal friends and people i trust

1 for co-workers and anyone work related

1 for online friends/people i dont trust

i hate mixing and personal life together with work.

I also have 2 facebook's one for work and personal friends. This way i can write in my status "calling in sick" without anyone at working finding out.

Gotta have fun but still stay professional at work

:P

everyone is talking about 3 way sli, and quad cores thats going to run you into over 1000 dollors, thats insane, just buy another cheep setup with a duel core and a 9800 run 3 or 4 monitors on that system and run 2 monitors on the system you have now

Of course your not. But it is what he wants, so why not help the man?

Btw, what all do you already have? Im assuming monitors... Duh, mouse, keyboard... Do you already have an OS, or is that on the budget too? Let me know what ya got, so I can optimize the build :D

Well thats what i am running now. But i am willing to spend that much or more money if i can get a system that can run all this.

If not i will just buy another cheap desktop and keep using 2 computers.

well because you dont do gamming i didnt really get topnotch cards, these cards will allow you to run your six monitors fine with no lagg, no reason to get 4 9800 if your not gamming on all 6 monitors is there? bassically i build you the cheepest system you could get that can run all 6 monitors,

You're right about the cards. Those are fine i don't game.
But i would like to keep using my 8600 gts and get some use out of it, i dont want to leaving it lying around. Seems like waste of money :)

Do you think it would conflict if i added my card and 3 of the 128mc cards u suggested?

And what about the cooling system? and case?

Alright, I got you set up with an i7 processor, new motherboard, 2GB DDR3 RAM (You wont need more than 2 unless you want to upgrade to Vista 64bit), a wicked powerful power supply, 750GB hard drive, motherboard, and some new video cards (1 pretty damn good one, to hook up to anything you want looking GREAT, and 2 crappy ones to support the other crap)

All at a subtotal of about $1100.

As for case and cooling, thats more for you to decide, I would recomend getting a big case and a lot of fans, or possibly consider liquid cooling. (Running that much stuff is gonna run some high temps)

This build should run pretty smoothly even with all of your stuff open.
