Help me buy a Gaming Laptop.

That's a pretty weak GPU really. Pretty pricey too. Sure you could play some games, but not everything, and not on the best settings.

do you know of any gaming ultrabooks? powerful but not bulky as hell such as the asus series of gaming laptops.

Oh okay, i like the MSI ones. You don't think they have some ultrabooks with recent GPUs coming out soon?

Very doubtful. The more powerful GPU's require a bigger heatsink and cooling system. Put a high-end laptop GPU into an ultrabook, it'll be more useful as a stove.

Ah I see, I guess that explains why that Razer Blade laptop has such a weak gpu in it, even though it costs about 3000 dollars. It looks so good though. All I want is a gaming ultrabook.

Pretty hard to find a gaming ultrabook, mainly people buy ultrabook for battery life and portability, I can easily carry around my 15 inch Dell XPS, it is bulky but all laptops are portable, the ones I posted aren't quite bulky as the Asus G series.

before we start saying which laptops are better, don't y'all think that it would be a good idea to find out what games he intends to play? Something like a GT630 could easily play COD, MOH (2010), BC2, probably frostbite 3 games on med or so, or anything from 2009 or before on max most likely.

or the 640m is even better.

650 yet better.

There are ultrabooks that can game pretty well, just at a price. For the price of a GT650m ultrabook, you could be getting GTX660m or GTX670m most likely in a normal laptop.

^ He wants a proper gaming laptop and dual core i5 and GT series will limit him quite much, I am suggesting him those normal laptops as they are good at price, easily portable and best thing is powerful quad core with GTX series GPUs.

in OP he said he wanted to have an ultrabook. But either way, the GTX660m is not far above a GT650m.

Processor, you have got to be joking. This is not 2002 where CPU is important factor in gaming. A SB dual core or above will be all anyone needs to game. Even an Phenom II x2 will game just fine with the right graphics card.

that ASUS UX51Vz-XH71 is perfect. I love the look of the zenbooks, thin and powerful. When I saw the price I was thinking wow and im going to want to put an ssd in it, but when I went to the details it says it has 2 256GB SSD's in it. So thats actually not too bad. Why would they put 500 GB HDD in the title???

out of stock already?

I haven't read much about the dual core or quad core processor debate on games but I have heard about it.

Has someone made benchmarks on this? I am gonna go google and see if someone posted some charts because that is a good question imo

if you can wait till 1600 hours (+/- an hour) EST, I can run some test with my 2600k @ 1/2/3/4 cores and HT on each to see how it performs.

What I can say is that in game I saw less than 10% increase in frames going from a GTX480 and G530 to a 2600k and GTX480.

edit: this review seems to be on the right order, but 2 years old. http://www.overclock.net/t/659536/contagion-review-dual-core-vs-quad-core-gaming-results

Basically CPU is important as much as the GPU in gaming, it has to do important calculations and feed the GPU, some games require more GPU power, some require more CPU power, so basically the quad core will perform better than dual at a similar cost. Like BF3 which is GPU based runs fine on dual core, but that is tested on desktop, Check out Civ 5 and that is mostly on the CPU side. The OP wants a gaming laptop, but is looking at ultrabooks.

5 years ago that might be true. These days not so much. Look at the benches linked. The dual is within the margin of error for quad and hex at the same speed. As long as you have a dual core, then you are fine.

one of my friends on skype who I have game sessions with has told me he has been having heat issues on his G75 asus laptop, so am i crazy to be trying to obtain a gaming ultrabook?

I've used a G75 for the last 6-7 months and its a great machine. No heat issues and quiet as hell... (is hell quiet/? well regardless the g75 makes little noise..LOL)

It's also much less bulky then the previous G's, and really..if you want a gaming styled laptop--it is gonna be bigger to accommodate proper cooling--

If you want light and fluffy--there are many options but your most likely not going to be doing much gaming on them,.
