Help me choose a card,please!

Ok well Im am interested in getting a new video card because i would like to strat getting into online gaming. I would like to be able to play Doom3 and Half-life 2 with very good graphics and no lag. I have no idea what makes a 256 MB 128 bit better than a 256 MB 256 Bit. And also I have no idea why some 256 MB are a hole lot cheaper than a 128 MB, for some models. Basically Im a NEWB. I have read a alot of stuff but i still cant find the card for me. I would like to spend under $300 definatley so I have money for more ram. So, please recomend me a vid card and tell me why!

nVidia or ATI? Pci-ex or AGP?

Edit: forgot you were a noob. What motherboard do you have/plan on getting?
 
regardless of agp or pcie I'd say a 6600GT (since it comes in both flavors) It can run both games well.

a 256MB 128bit card is worse than a 256MB 256bit card, the more bits the memory interface has the faster it can transfer stuff making it better.
 
Ok well will i see a noticable diffrence between the 256 MB and 128MB??? Can i please get links to because theres like the 6800 GT, 6800 Ultra, 6800,etc.

How are the ATI cards because i see there cheaper and the makers of half life 2 said that the game was designed for ATI cards and it is 20% better with one

Perhaps but [1] who cares about HL2? [2] youll still be able to play HL2 plenty fine :)

Not necessarily, MOST 128s will be fine for MOST things. But b/c (s)he is wanting to play D3 well, I would recommend 256

From what i heard, you cant even notice a diffrence from ultra and high. Yeah i think im going to go with the 6800 GT if thats what you guys said. Ill research more about it and see. Thanks for your advice. Please keep it coming!

They are essentially the same, just different companies making the same thing with the same specs.

Newegg doesn't want to come up for me, but off the top of my head, XFX is a good brand.
