Help me choose a card,please!

OK, now it came up.

XFX, EVGA, Gigabyte, are all brands that I trust. I would stay away from Rosewill or Jaton, I have never heard of them before.

Within brands it doesnt matter much. Do note that the MSI 6600GT does tend to have more pronounced HS wobble than other 6600GTs

not much to worry about with that card, just make sure the heatsink is seated properly before and after you install it

A lot of you are saying 6600gt's. I would say choose a 6800, I got mine for 250 at Best Buy with Far Cry and Half Life 2 and it was the BFG overclocked one. Also, some older 256mb cars are cheaper because the are older models. For ATI its the 9700, 9600, 9800, x800. For Nvidia its the 5700, 5800, 5900, 6200, 6600, and 6800. So for instance a 128 mb card in the 6600 would beat a 256 mb card in the 5900. Or a 128 mb card in the 9800 would beat a 256 mb card in the 9600 (if they made one).

I know of some reasons for such a suggestion ... but what reasons do you have in mind?

For Nvidia its the 5700, 5800, 5900, 6200, 6600, and 6800
1. The 5800 came in 256MB models?
2. I wouldnt consider the 6x00 to be "old"

a 256 mb card in the 9600 (if they made one).
Uh... they do.

There is more to a video card than just memory buffer size.

as you can see the 6600GT beats a 9800XT which is a 256MB card and its got a wider memory bus to boot.

And how is a 6600 an old card? it came out AFTER the 6800NU/GT/Ultra. Price isn't necessarily a function of age, its also relative performance and target market. You can charge a lot for a 6800Ultra becuase there (believe it or not) is a market for those expensive prices.

i know it sometimes cant happen but it should work a lot and its better than a 6600gt
I would hope so :P The 6600s are made seperately from the 6800 line, they generally (might happen on rare occasions) aren't pipe-disabled high end chips.

Eh, when I made the chart on cars by age, when I said the 6200, 6600, and 6800, I put it in a way of performace. If i wanted to be correct, it would be 6800, 6600, then 6200 but then that would have been confusing. Also, find a benchmark where a 6600gt beats a regular 6800. Finally when I was talking about the mb of older cards, I was using information on top of my head. I was just trying to show him that a 128mb 6800 would beat a 256mb 5950Ultra.

Ill give you that once in a blue moon one person out of a million can get the full 16 pipes (more likely they'll get just 12) .... regardless a heavily OCd 6600GT will outpace a 6800LE almost anyday (hell, even straight out of the box its a serious contender)

Also, find a benchmark where a 6600gt beats a regular 6800.
It doesnt have to beat it, http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2278&p=13 -- for the price difference its easily arguable that its a better choice.

:)

Thans man! I clicked that comparison link and the 6800 was better by like 1.0%! Thats really good to know. Thanks a lot. I ordered the 6600 GT. But inorder to do so i had to order a new case, motherboard, CPU because my dell is gay. lol.

u should be fine

Yea, u should be fine with the 6600GT, I've got a 5500 256MB and I can do HL2 on highest settings with ease. I know that HL2 is more of a CPU oriented game but still, the CPU aint making all those fancy graphics.
