Help me choose

I saw the nvidia 8400gs and the radeon 2400 pro (both PCI) I am not a mad gamer (but I like to play older games like half-life 2, flight simulator, AOE III, etc.) I just wanted to know how well these card will perform with those games.

MY pc SPCES:

P-4 HT 3.00 GHZ (rated @ 4.5 GHz, one core two threads)
intel extreme 2 graphics ( i know horrible)
160 GB HDD (7200 rpm)
1 GB DDR ram


OH and before I forget the radeon (2400 pro) cost cost about 100 dollars while the nvidia (8400gs) one cost about 85 dollars

Oh and before anyone says anything I cannot buy a new computer (I wish I could )
 
Well I have a 8500GT and it performed JUST GREAT on AEOIII, all settings maxed out, 8400 can't be a lot worse. My friend's computer's got a NVIDIA 7-series onboard and it plays HL2 fine, so I'm almost certain 8400 will max it out easily. Where do you live though? Those seem extremely high prices for two bottom-of-the-barrel cards? AFAIK you can get either for less than $50 from newegg...even my 8500GT cost less than both of those cards back when I bought it (Living in Australia)

Thanks for the reply yeah I live in the US and you say that the 8400gs is better than the hd 2400pro? Well I will see (About how many times better do you think your 8500 gt will be than the 8400gs) Thanks again though

Oh... I don't know if the 8400 is actually better, I'm saying that it will run the games you listed maxed out with decent frames. I *THINK* the 2400 card is actually better, but I'd just go cheaper (thenagain that's just me). However, like craneop asked, are you SURE you don't have a PCI-E slot? Even though 8400 and 2400 are both low-end, regular PCI will bottleneck them, and either card would struggle (even at the games you listed). If you don't have a PCI-E slot, get the cheaper card (8400) because, due to limitations of PCI, getting a better card will give no performance increase (at least any you could notice).
