I have a 40gb hard drive with 512 RAM and a 64mb SiS video card. and a 17inch monitor.

It was bought 3-4 years ago. I can get a desktop much better than this for just $500. This was bought for $800

The problem is I cant convince my parents to get a new one. They say "it does what it needs to do" and at a decent speed. I dont know what else to say that could change their minds.

Can anybody help?

What do you use it for? "I need an new computer." "Why?" "Mine's too slow." "You use it for chatting, that's it." <- Your parents are right.

Computer specs?

well, I have the sims 2 and 2 expansion packs for them. i used to play them until my old video card broke, now I'm stuck with this SiS card that its not compatable with.

I don't really know what else to say except i crave more speed and better technology, I'm not sure how else it would come in handy. I was hoping you guys could help me with that.

Hmmm lets see.... Photoshop CS3, Flash Pro 8, Fireworks Pro 8, and Dreamweaver just to name a few. Not to mention games that actually merit the money.

processor is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+, MMX, 3D Now, ~1.3 GHz

http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardware/cpu/article.php/1363691 <- according to that article date, your CPU was probably made in early 2002. You NEED to daze them with technical terms. I recommend getting the specs of you system, so we could put an speech in for you :D.

First off: "Mom/dad, my CPU, an AMD Athlon XP2200 plus with MMX and 3D now is 5 years old! These days people are already getting the Quad the Core 2 Quads, while I'm stuck with an sucky single core!' <- Something like that, but with more computer terms.

There is no reason to try and persuade them. Young adults don't understand the value of money. I am sure that if your parents had money to spare they would buy a new computer but 9/10 people don't have money just laying around. It sounds to me like you parents are managing there money.
Maybe you could try and earn some money to upgrade or replace them computer if you want to that bad. That and you would also learn the value of a dollar at the same time :)

Exactly :)

If your Dad likes sports tell him your in the pee wee league and you would really like to play real baseball now. Plus say the system requirements are to low for anything you want to play. Get a parttime job to help pay.
