Hi everydoby,

I was wondering if anyone could help me improve the performance of my Dell XPS 710. What parts should i change or add to make graphics alot better and quicker response in games. I would like to play age of conan or battlefield bad company with very high graphics if possible.
This is my machine

CPU: Intel Core2 CPU 6400 @ 2.13GHz
MOBO: Dell XPS710 Dell INC.
MEMORY: generic 2.00 GB RAM DDR2 267FSB
VIDEO CARD: NVIDIA GeForce 7900 GTX 665core/815memory

Thank you for youre help

Thank you for the advice, iam using windows 7
Do you think thhe video card im using is still good out there or i should change that ?

Your central processing unit is likely going to hold you back with the video games you want to play. It is doubtful you can upgrade the processor since it is an original equipment manufacturer system.

Upgrading RAM isn't going to give you the results you want in my opinion.

Thank you for your help, so the problem is really my processor... ill se if its possible to upgrade it.. i think i need to find what socket is on my motherboard.. do you think its worth it or i should wait and build a new computer ?

It's socket LGA 775.

I'd advise something like this for a suitable upgrade:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116091&cm_re=e6300-_-19-116-091-_-Product (not to be confused with the older e6300. this one uses the wolfdale core like the e8xxx series)

RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0231207&cm_re=4gb_ddr2-_-20-231-207-_-Product

GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150466&cm_re=5670-_-14-150-466-_-Product

However we will need to confrim the following things:

CPU support list for computer/motherboard

How many memory slots the motherboard has

If you have a PCI-E x16 slot or not

And whether you have an adequate power supply. (it's a dell so that's a definate no)

All in all I'd say it's not worth upgrading... You could build a new computer for $400 and salvage some parts from the dell machine.

wow thanks for all that info, i think im gonna look for a custom built 400$ dosent semm that bad but im gonna have to read somes reviews on hardware, im a bit out of date and i dont know what to buy. I heard alot about Eve video cards something like that, even heard that amd cpu were good and cheaper than intel. Do you know a good spot for hardware info, its gonna be my first custom build ever. A Very High graphics computer for actual game can it be possible under a 500$

Thanks

Hey ! Yeah the setup looks good, never heard about this video card... and the motherboard iam not sure about this one. Cpu looks to be well performing. I always used to be with intel but amd seems more and more popular if iam not wrong. Quite hard to chose the part of youre first custom machine !

I have experience with picking components for desktop computers. The company Gigabyte makes some of the best motherboards out there on the market presently. All the parts I recommended are decent quality.
