My bro and I wanted to play CS:S, but his desktop is from HP, which has integrated graphics. It just sucks. It's only 2 years old but cant play source without any lag. So we decided to upgrade. I want him to get intel, not amd for some reason. I've wrote some parts that we need and i want computer guru people review them.

intel core 2 duo E6550 $175
This is prettu soild cpu, which i don't think we will change our minds on cpu.

Gigabyte DS4 about $110
Need recommendations etc. what board should i get in 110-150 range?

8600gt $140
that is what I have now, but 7900gt ot 7950gt kicks ass with similar price, but they dont have dx10 capabilities. Should I wait for 8800gts price to go down or buy 8600gt or even 7900gt/7950gt?

corsair 520w psu $110-$130
pretty descent psu, which I dont think there is a problem. Advice also needed.

Also a word of advice, DONT EVER BUY HP desktop. he spent $1400 for a desktop without a graphics card! That is a rip off. And there is no slot for pci express nor agp. that is a sick ass mother board.

Right...er...HP dont necessarily suck, the components current, as in intergrated graphics do, so would they on any PC/Motherboard. Maybe get a graphics card installed in the HP. As you realise if you buy any motherboard with intergrated grtaphics is will provide poor performance.

Agreed.. try buying and installing an aftermarket graphics card first.. you'll save a lot of greenbacks :D

yea. thanks. but I when I opened the case to see if there is a agp or pci express, there is NONE! Only pci slots. I know that there are graphic cards for PCI slot, but they suck. Help me out.

yes thats right,Hp imo are the best company to buy a prebuilt pc,Dell are bad lol.
my nearly 3 and half year old Hp pavilion had intergrated graphics when i purchased it and it couldnt handle any games :D
but when i upgraded to a GFX card it was brilliant at the time:P

I will go take a careful look at the system. But from the specification on the paper, there is clearly no pci express or agp. I will go check it again tonight. My girlfriend's compaq desktop doesn't have pci express or agp either.

My price range is whatever it takes to play modern games. My computer with 8600gt plays CSS beautifully. But I think he should get 7950XT or something better. All we need is cpu, psu, ram, gpu and motherboard (hmmm. that is pretty much everything except hdd, cd drive). Well, for all that we are thinking about 600-700 dollars.

I'm sure you are right, some of the older HP around the p4 2.4 Ghz didnt have Pci Ex slots mainly because they wasn't no demand for them as they was just coming to out. my 3.0 Ghz HP does have one.

I wound not give up on that system get a pci card nvidia 6200 for cheap that will help that system a bunch.
I still say HP makes the best prebuilt systems for the price.

ok. i checked the computer again, it does not have pci express or agp. Shame on HP. the funny thing is the processor is suppose to run at 3.0ghz (pentium 4 HT), the motherboard lower the clock speed to 2800mhz, which i dont understand at all. HP just sucks and I will never want to deal with HP desktops. I love HP laptops though.

Which Gigabyte DS4 are you getting? P965 or P35??
Can get the cheapest GA-P35-DS3L if you not RAID/Crossfire/need 1394a.
Get the E6750 instead of E6550. Just $15 more.

By the way, if you are not running Vista/ DX10, I would suggest go for a 7900GT. And wait for more new card.
However, can also consider 8600GT, you could sell it on ebay when you upgrade...

i decided to go with amd because it is much cheaper than the intel build. I didn't know amd build has so many combo deal that just slashs off 20-30 dollars on everything. Wow. We decided to just build in that micro HP case to save some money, so we need micro atx motherboard and AMD processor and Asus has killer deals for them.

all totals up to 523 dollars without any rebate. I think this is the deal that we are going to take. I think reason why amd chips are selling strong at newegg is they have great combo deals that just gives really good discounts. Please review and give advice please!

To use that HP case you might have to drill some holes for the motherboard to screw to. Also the I/O ports mounts might have to be relocated. Hp does not want their cases used for after market builds. So they do not make it easy to do. You would probably be better off buying a new case.

HP does not use standard motherboards for their cases. They have different mounting holes and other things moved around so they only fit in their cases. And nothing else fit's in their case.

I ran into this problem years ago when I wanted to update my first computer which was a HP. I ended up just buying a new case. That's why I never buy pre built systems from the big companys. I always build my own systems now.

Agreed !! I am also sorry to say that accept to buy a desktop 1400$ with an integrated graphic chipset...this does really suck:rolleyes:

No offense...
