Help me narrow down to a cpu....

What do you think I should get?
I'll use for alot of video/audio/editing, and some gaming, but nothing over CNC:Generals.
I will be oc'ing, but the stock hsf doesn't need to be awesome, but does need to have one, but i'll buy i nicer one for oc'ing.
Along with a oc'able mobo it has to be under $140US
Here is what i've narrowed it down to.

Intel Celeron D 375, Prescott, 3.06ghz, s478-$77,$4 ship

AMD Sempron 3100+, Palermo, 1600mhz HT-$82, $2 ship

Intel Celeron D 351, Prescott, 3.2ghz, s775, $75, $4 ship

Thats all........I'll also buy from forumers (or forumettes, lol), so if you have something cheaper than I'll buy, incidentally I'm selling a FIC K7M 400L mobo with an AXP 2600+ and 512mb Samsung PC 2100 ram...all tested and working.

Most reviews see AMD outperform Intel without OCing depending on the gap between them. Intel models also average higher temps. With the plan to OC you will want better than stock cooling to keep the temps down.

i'd get the sempron.
id show you a tomshardware comparison but people seem to not like tomshardware because they do all different kinds of comparisons in one to make it better :P
hmm seems they have the sempron 3100+ tested but not the celeron series.
i'd still get the sempron.

You could even go with a Socket 939 board with an equivalent S939 cpu to utilize the dual channel capability. Socket 754 MBs are strictly single channeled.

yes yes the celerons arent great. the sempron would probably be the best bet. though if you are doing hard core stuff none of these will really suit your purposes

In addition to looking into a Socket 939 model board and cpu the option to upgrade with a faster model processor along with utilizing the dual channel capability not seen on Socket 754 model boards. The performance reviews on AMD cpuis is all too often noted in a large variety of reviews.

I would also get the Sempron, they are pretty good for budget cpu's, especially in gaming.

AMDs are going to ring circles around Intel anyway. If I was going for a portable at this time and date it would also have an AMD cpu running it. I haven't even ran a case with an Intel since the old dos days with an IBM 386.

The last time I saw it it was $145-. You are supposed to able to clock those up close to 3ghz according to some since they are fully unlocked.

i'd either get the sempron or go socket 939...
going 754 isn't worth it unless its a budget system...
in which case you get the sempron 3100+ or 3300+

I could easy jump up and down yelling go Socket 939 for not just an AMD64 but even for later upgrade to a dual core performer maybe even an Opteron. Plus you would see dual channel capability where 754 was strictly single channel. Multitasking with a dual cored cpu on a dual channel board will be seen in full on the next build planned here. You can easily go anything like that later as long as the board support is there.

i think i'll go with my last choice (the s754), but i need to sell my AXP2600 and FIC board, and my pc2100......i only have 50 bucks right now

well... think of it this way. the jump from sempron to athlon isn't that great... sure athlon's are better chips, but getting dual channel is like instead of getting pc3200 rather than pc2100, you're getting pc6400...
if you're pc2100 is in dual channel then going to pc3200 single channel would be a DOWNGRADE! (memory bandwidth wise at least)

haha not gonna happen. but the nforce 4 and a cpu would only cost like $20-$30 more...
you seriously can't save up that much?
i mean, wait a week or two... its definitely worth it to get s939... dual channel memory plus upgradability! definitely worth it.
btw theres an "edit" button for a reason... you could've put all 3 of those posts in a single post.

i actually need the computer this week (school crap), but i could save up for a bit.....)!&%)*#@^%)(&@!_(&$#

Thanks for helping....what 939 layout should i get? the cheaper the better
