Help Me OC P4 to 7GHz

Well a friend and I are bored, so we're going to (attempt) to overclock his P4 (stock 3GHz) to around 7GHz...just to say that we've done it.

The CPU in question is currently in use (he's using it until the Q9450 comes out) but when they come out, we're going to try it.

Now my (our) problem, is that he doesn't want to use his Asus Maximus Formula for the motherboard (would it ruin it?) so we're going to purchase a cheap motherboard/RAM.

Will cheap mobos still OC decent?Can somebody recommend a CHEAP motherboard (Under $50). Our other problem is RAM, will we have to have decent RAM to attempt something like this?

Oh, we'll be using Liquid Nitrogen btw.

Try a Gigabyte board, hopefully the P35, the P31 can have temp problems when handling a high OC. Do NOT spill the Liquid Nitrogen on you, you might be missing a finger...
 
I'm the friend and its a Pentium 4 631 (thats right the same model that has been clocked to an insane 8ghz by some crazy Italians) and yes we need to know a good cheap mobo. I think that a 1333fsb mobo should be enough to get to at least 6ghz but idk. I have it clocked right now at 3.6 with a 980fsb.

any help will be greatly appreciated

Like I said, we're going to do it...just because we can (or...hopefully can). We will probably also run a few benchmarks just to see how it performs/if it's even stable.

We also want to try SuperPi (what's the SuperPi record?)

im not sure what it is, but you cant beat it :P
 
Don't forget the CPU can reach a point where it's so cold the molecules also slow making it totally unstable and you'll need a motherboard that has no limit on the multiplier. :)

I wouldn't worry about that, people run theres at around -140C and it still runs fine.

Interesting:) I've searched out a few sites and it can go a lot lower. I wonder if it could physically stand up to this coldness for long without breaking up and is it a case of a short lived processor.
