Help me pick a Processor

Hey guys I was recently thinking about buying a new CPU and I think that I am going to go with AMD. The only thing is I'm not sure which one to pick. I was really looking at the 3800+ but I'm not sure if the extra money is really worth it. Is it really worth it to get a 3800+ over say a 3200+, the prices are very different but I am wondering if I would notice much of a performance difference with the 3800+ over something else. Also I would mainly be using the computer for gaming purposes.

are you comparing the XP3200+ with the 64 3800+?
Could do with some links to what you looking at here

The Athlon64 3800+ will out score the 64 3200+ and the XP 3200+ on all bench marks, and will give a nice overclock

The 3200+ doesn't support dual channel unlike the 3800+

It a bit down to budget at the end of the day, but do post the links your looking at so we can see what your comparing

The 3200+ doesn't support dual channel

the skt 754 version does not support dual channel. There is also a skt 939 athlon 64 3200 which do support dual channel. So your statement is wrong half the time.

Which is why i asked if he was discussing the 64 or the XP,

Thats because you only read half the post

Except the 3200+ can come labeled as an Athlon 64 in sockets 754 and 939, and it can also come labeled as an Athlon XP 3200+ which could have dual channel, it depends on the board. That said I'm pretty sure we are talking Athlon 64s here.

Um well if you knew what you was talking about you would know a athlon xp is skt A. BUt I mention skt 939 and skt 754 which are BOTH athlon 64 3200+ so my statement was correct.

Athlon XP 3200+ which could have dual channel, it depends on the board.

so your orginal statement only applys if you talking about a skt 754 athlon 64 and you did not say that.

Well if you such a genious why dont you help by answering the question rather than debunking my answer.

Well personally I would get the athlon 64 3500+. The difference to the 3800+ is not that great in my opioun.

Try not to take comments so personally. If something is said wrong here I would hope someone would point it out. We dont want people to make decisions with wrong information. If I said something wrong and it was shown to me that I was wrong I would not be offended at all. I would proberly thank them for teaching me something. Witch I have done a number of times to praetor and cromwell.

Well if you really want an answer to that there's two ways to help:
1. Point out errors
2. Make new points :P

I am of course making light play (so lighten up buddy). A very important point was made in that the 3200+ could either be a AthlonXP, Athlon64-754 or Athlon64-939 which two of those three supporting dual channel (and with the AthlonXP only if the mobo supports it). As for progressing along to solve the initial problem, not doable as we are all pending information :)
