Ok, well heres what im looking for:

1. I listen to alot of music, some photos, some videos. but mainly music. Every now and then a game (its kool to have it nice)
2. I kinda need to go the dell way.
3. I have a Viewsonic 19" monitor that i need to get 1440 x 900 screen.
4. I have speakers, mouse, keyboard, so im set there.

**Right now I have about a 5 year old Dell Dimension 2400, which has worked nice, its just time for an upgrade.

I wanna hear your suggestions!! I dont need some super-computer, but one for music or something along the lines of that would be awesome.

Any questions you have for me, ill be checking this post alot and reading around, thanks for any help!!

what is you price range? i don't think monitor or other external accessories has anything to do with the cpu/mobo. from the things you listed, those are just basic common things so a low end dual core in the $100 range would probably be good for you unless you want to spend more

well im wanting to buy the actual cpu, i dont need a monitor/speakers/mouse/keyboard is what im trying to explain, I just need the cpu.

I need a dell (well i dont need a dell, but i guess my family gets discounts that way)

The computer needs some good space, and decent/good gaming, most important is the music - sound.

So what would be a good Computer to get with those standards?? I don't wanna spend like 1000+.

wait i'm a little confused. are you looking for a prebuilt dell with all those specs (since you can get a little discount) or are you asking for a motherobard and cpu that will fit those specs?

here are the parts i chose and recommended to someone for a computer than can play every game out (including crysis) but still a budget comp:

CPU - Intel Pentium E2160 $83
mobo - GA-P35-DS3L $95
GPU - HD 2900PRO 512MB $160
RAM - OCZ 2gb ddr2-800mhz $21
HD - WD 160gig $50
DVD - samsung 20x burner $30
PSU - raidmax 530watts $35
case - antec 900 $70
total - $544

as for the sound card, the xonar, prelude, or creative x-fi's are the top of the line sound cards, costing almost $200. i don't know if sound is that important for you to spend that much on just a sound card though. i'll just tell you that those will be useless if you don't have top of the line speakers. but for basic mainstream general listenings, you can get a sound card in the $30-$100 range and that would be fine.

do note that this is the MINIMUM to play ALL the latest games. you can replace any of the parts with better parts if you want to spend more, but i think this is very cost effective vs performance. i don't know now long until rebates expire because i haven't checked them but if you want this exact build, then buy it fast. this is about half of what you expected to spend for a good comp. pretty cheap if you can build your own PC huh? :D

thanks for the reply!!
dope post.

Well.. Originally I am looking for a prebuilt dell with the specs, but your post is very intriguing to kinda "build my own."

If you/anyone has any prebuilt dells that fit my specs, i'd be interested in seeing them!!

Thanks much for the info, right now my speakers are not top of the line, and ill be usuing this info in a few months when i upgrade them!!

oh. when people say CPU, that means just the processor. i didn't know you meant a whole prebuilt comp. anyways, you should try to build you own computer because it will generally cost less, custom it to your very likings, and use name brand parts. a lot of times, prebuilt ones use crappy parts (to keep the prices as low as possible) that have been tested to work with that very setup. what you are paying for is the cheap parts and labor of putting it together

I know. My business teacher used to call a computer a CPU, and whenever i'd correct her, she'd tell me I was wrong.

next time you see her, tell her CPU stands for central processing unit and it's just the chip, not the whole computer with all the other hardware

Its a waste of breath, I tried. She considers an entire computer a central processing unit. Even though i would consider it a Processing Unit, in specifics, theres like 5 different processing units inside heh, CPU and GPU being big ones.
