Help me pick out a gaming laptop for college.

Well, I just graduated high school and my grandparents promised they'd buy me a laptop as a graduation present. When my brother graduated, they bought him a Macbook for ~$1,000 so that is about my spending limit too.

I've been looking around, but I figured it would help to at least try asking here. I basically want a laptop that can play games on pretty high settings that will have a long enough battery life to bring to class and not worry about it dying on me (I suppose I could upgrade to a bigger battery, right)

I know there are millions of options and it really depends on what specs I may need but I was wondering if someone could post a laptop for around $1,000 that would be the best for my money. In terms of performance, screen size (bigger the better), battery life, and reliability of the brand, what do you guys recommend?

You're not going to find that. Gaming laptops with good battery life are virtually nonexistant, for obvious reasons...much less under $1000.

What you could do is grab a cheap netbook to take to class, and spend the rest on a ~$750 desktop. You could build a fairly decent machine for gaming with that.

If you're determined, though, then Asus, Toshiba, and Sony are typically your best bet. I'll look on the egg and get back to you.

edit: This Lenovo is about as good as you're going to get:

look below, i paid $1100, play any game on highest possible settings, no lag, no problems,
i see one thing, battery life sucks a bit.

i agree...laptop and gaming...its laughable, its like asking for the thing to burn itself to death, get a decent laptop for class...and build a gaming desktop, your performance will be better for gaming, and no risk of burning up stuff...

yeah, well according to some people 4 hours, battery life, but i use turbo boost, that in my opinion slams the battery life, so i actually now have only 1 and a half, hours, but i think what daisymtc recommended are all good choices,
