Im having a problem with my computer harddrive its sad.

Im running a really old Maxtor Harddrive its a 10gig haha sad yeah i know. i havent had the money to buy the new 250 gig samsung that has came out so i have to deal with that horrible thing. anyway im running that Xp Home edition AMD Athlon Xp 2500+ and 512 ram

My friend recently gave me a Simple Drive External Drive thats a 250 gig or so he didnt have the box and he doesnt know so im left out of the dark for that. Anyway,

iI was wondering to help my computer run faster is there anyway i can just make this external harddrive my primary drive to where they both work together and so my machine can run faster. Because i think if i can do that i think my computer will run so much faster but i dont know if i can change the primary drive or anything so please tell me what i can do.

External drives are just standard internal drives with a USB to IDE converter. Why not just take that drive out of the enclosure and make it your primary internal drive.

As for what you asked, USB MUCH slower than IDE, so you'd loose a ton of performace. I know some computer do allow for USB boot devices, but just installing the drive internally would be the best.
