If nothing comes on at all, no board led or fans run, the supply probably quit from the new load on it. That says that the supply was weak and on the way out to see that. Forgetting the ide cable won't cook a board instantly. The drive would simply be not seen in either the post screen or in Windows. Or in the worst case something on the board itself simply decided to quit right then?
