i have a MSI K9AGM3 and i have plugged everything in except that i am confused about the HDD and my DVD-RW drive. They are both ide drives but i only have one ide socket on my mobo. I have a lead that has 3 ide plugs on it and i read some other forums of how to connect them together to one socket. They said that i had to put my HDD as a master by moving the jumpers and move my disc drive to a slave drive. It also said to make my HDD drive have the end of the lead while my disc drive has the middle one. so i did. Now every time i start it up it shows up a logo of my mobo, (like it should), but it stays on there for a very long time and then goes on to doing something that says verifying client mac adress. ?????????????. Dont tell me to go into the bios setup because i have tryed that and it says that my HDD is a master but it doesnt find my disc drive. The closest i have got to starting windows is it says that windows didnt start correctly and everytime i press start windows normally it restarts itself and does it again.

PS: my HDD is out of my old computer because im building a new one but all the rest is new. (my HDD has already got windows installed on it that i installed with my old mobo).

Plz help and im sorry this post is so long.

I am prepared to answer any questions you want to know about it.

With a new motherboard you are going to have to reformat the drive and reinstall windows. I also dont think connected the hdd and cd-drive to the same IDE chain is going to work properly. If your motherboard only has one (your sure about that?) you may have to use sata for the hard drive.

now you have windows installed from your old motherboard? if so formatt the drive and start fresh.because you cant do that wont work...

because you cant have an hdd and disc drive on the same IDE chain. You need to go a sata hdd or disc drive and hook it up that way.

you could buy an adapter to turn the IDE to sata, but it would best to just by the new drive. In other words, no theres not.

mac address has something to do with logging onto the network or internet, but im not the one to answer that question. I would ask it in the internet board.

You can put a harddrive and cd/dvd-rom/burner on the same IDE cable/channel, done it hundreds of times. You might need to make sure the jumper on the DVD is put on the slave pins/ some harddrives have Master pins for master by itself and master with slave present, make sure the pin it right. With a new Motherboard you will have to do a clean install or atleast a repair install.

I was not aware of that.

ive go one of these

of course you can install two units on a single IDE channel..

check the IDE cable, maybe it's broken.. It happens very often. try with a new one.

I was under the impression that you had to have a master ide channel for the hdd and a secondary for the cd-drive. Sata drives are very simple, and cheap these days.
