Help me upgrade my gf's computer

Allright I want to upgrade my gf's computer cuz it's slow as hell. Sometimes I play cs or try to play BF2 (horrible gameplay) and it's just slow. Computer restarts on itself once in a while and sometims lags while doing simple operations like opening Firefox.

Anyway here are the spec that I found so far.

Mobo ECS P4S5MG/GL+
CPU Pentium 4 1.7 GHZ
Ram SDRAM 512mb 3.3.3.6.10
Video MSI FX5700 128mb
PSU no clue what it is, nothing written on it, just plain box :)

I don't wanna go over $400 as I'm in middle of putting another computer for myself. What could I do with it ? Overclocking is out of question as I don't know how to do it, or have any friends that do it. If u require any addtional info hit me up please, also if u wanna see pics of it then lemme know, i'll b more than happy to do some.
 
Of course I will try to help ;) First of all, the list that you gave us your system should run pretty good. May the reason was that you have a spyware that slow the computer down and getting worse and worst. You'll probably need to buy an Spyware Software somewhere at your area such as Wal-Mart, Office-Max, or something else. So that you don't have to spend your money for new computer.

Hard drive is 80GB Wester Digital

As for the computer, there's no spyware, virus or anything like it. There's Lavasotf spyware detector, peerguardian, Norton and Panda, so comp is clean like a newborn as* :)
When u don't perform any operations the computer uses 95mb of memory. CS runs fine with it, but BF2 runs horrible, like u'r lagging constantly. Anyway wanna upgrade it as much as I can for no more than $400.

Can I change motherboard so it'll still run with the same CPU but it'll b able to run DDR Ram ? Then I could get 1gb and guess it would solve most issues. And also good PSU ? Would I squeeze in $400 ?

it could use a good cleaning, lol and yes, a new mobo would let you use ddr ram. i would also sugges a better video card.
 
Lol, cleaning, what do u mean ? I just cleaned it like a week ago :D
kiddin, yeah I know, I gotta go get some air spray cuz and vacum it. Just cleaned the cpu fan like a week ago after I opened her insides for the first time

OK, nevermind, Total change of plans. Talked to few ppl and it turns out that there's just too manu things I have to change to make this a really good machine. So I think I'm gonna sell this comp to my buddy, who's been bugging me forever to sell it to him. He needs it only for chatting and looking for carparts online, so perfect machine for him, maybe even too fast, LOL :D

K and I'm gonna build a new one. All the parts I will b getting from http://www.liata.com since it's my local store and it gives me discounts and all sorts of different bonuses (steady client). So I came up with the idea of what I can get for $1500can but I don't know what video to get from there. So far with the parts that I chose it's $1200 so I can get a video card for no more than $300 from this website. Can u help me out ? Is the setup that I choose is good ? Would u change something ? And for Video I know there's not a lot of them so if ther's really better ones in that price range lemme know and I'll try to find it somewhere else.
