Help me upgrade my HP 6635

I have a HP 6635 desktop PC that is in dire need of upgrading. I'm just fooling around with it now so I'll take any advice. I am hoping to upgrade the memory, optical drive, power supply, and if possible,the the processor.Thank you for any help or suggestions.

Processor almost wouldn't be worth updating. I can't say for sure seeing as I don't know exactly what the mobo can handle, but I doubt it's much higher than it's current specs...

Memory shouldn't be a problem. I read somewhere it could only go up to 256M. I suspect it only has a single slot in there, but I'm not sure as, once again, I can't find much about it...

Optical drive, not a problem at all. I would think any IDE based device should work just fine in there.

Power Supply... I don't know if it has a standard ATX in there, but I see NO reason you should mess with this unless you plan to replace the mobo...
 
I just kind of want to mess around with it, a project, make it a decent internet computer, maybe play some games. As for budget, pretty much anything that it is able to take, I'll pay for because it looks like everything for it is sort of cheap.
 
If money isn't much of an issue, I'd just build a whole new machine, possibly taking a few parts for that one. With it's age and MB, I doubt you'll have a decent computer regardless what you install... It's also hard to tell right off what processor thing supports, but I doubt it's too high. Definetly nothing over a PIII, probably only around 700MHz or so.
 
I'm probably going to build a computer some time soon yet for right now I think I'll just mess around with this one, see what I can do. Also, the mouse is not working with a running mouse, it was working on & off for a little while but has completely shut down now. I'm not sure but I don't think it is hardware, it's running XP, not that well, but still running it, any ideas?

The same thing happened to me...My computer's mouse just stopped working, and also everything turned gray (16 colors). I cant get it out of that either! i gave up on it lol. Hopefully you'll have better luck.
 
the 16 colors thing happened to me to, the Win XP install fixed that, but then the mouse stopped working, even USB mouse doesn't do anything.
