help me with my routers!!! please

hi i dont really understand how networks work or rather I thought i did before this just wouldn't work. I have one computer in my study connected to a Bt Homehub router and a computer in my bedroom with a router attached to it.. I want them to connect, i have tried a number of different things.. the study computer is running on xp and my bedroom computer is on windows 7 i dont know if that effects anything, i really have no clue what im doing please spell it out for me

If you want to think of it that way, sure... in most cases, more information will be coming from the router, but information is being sent in both directions.

Basically, the router is a multi-function device. First, it connects networks together (in most cases, internet and your local network). It also configures your network by assigning addresses to computers connected, managing security settings, etc etc. A router is nothing more than a computer with a few networking cards in it :P

As for configuring your computers, well I don't know anything about your router so it's difficult to say exactly what to do. However, the best way to start would be read the manual. It should explain how to connect to it and configure it. Start working on it over a wired connection. Enable all the settings you need, perhaps beginning with an unsecured network. Once you confirm your wireless-enabled device connects, you can begin enabling security settings and re-configure the PC.
