Hey guys! if any of you have an answer to my problem that would b awesome!

When im playing games i.e. counter strike my computer shuts off. If i hit the power button it doesnt turn back on i have to remove the power lead for a few secs put it back in hit the power button and it turns on!.

Isa be thinking its the PSU, however the whole pulling the lead out back then putting it back in to turn it on is kinda weird!

Thanks in advance for any answers!

If anyone could back us up on it being the PSU that would be awesome! I'm kinda the family IT dude and im trying to fix it for my brother.

Where both really busy during the week and today's the only day i can buy one and install it for him.

Please reply!:)

Its and old gigabyte motherboard, 80gb HD, some old 256MB agp card(think geforce 4), 400 watt PSU(stock psu it'd be like 4 years old), 1gb ddr1 400 ram, 2.8ghz CPU, running Windows XP Home, overall its about 3-4 years old

A week ago he got G15 keybord n G5 mouse any chance that could have something to do with it?

One other thing i left it running over night to see if it would turn off and it didnt, it definetly only occurs during heavy usage.

Thank tones for any replys

could be the PSU or just heat...
i'd check the interior. look in the cpu heatsink, if it's full of dust, clean it out (compress air or a big breath lol).. same for the graphics card's cooling...

yea now you say that sounds alot like a heat prob download program that shows heat on ur comp

dont think so lol do u know how they rate us for example im a silver member when do i turn gold?

Thanks for the replys fellas!

Ill start monitoring the temps! There only sitting around at 45* tho

At what temps are too hot for the CPU and HDD?

Thanks again

Matt

I've been using sensors view, it shows up HDD, CPU, AUX and SYSTEM would be sweet if it showed gfx card aswell anyway it must be the temp idles at 40-45 jump on game and within a few minutes its up at 55, when he comes home later ill open the case up and put the fan on it get him to play for a while and see wat happens!:D

Thanks for helping me laz and joh your awesome! you saved me buying a PSU that i prolly dont need:D

not a problem man!
i suggest you clean it anyway, promotes life in the system, especially heatwise..
if it's cleaned, temps go down, and stuff still messes up, post back , okay?
