Help! My computer has fallen and it won't get up!

So, I've been running the same computer for a while now, and finally decided that it was time to upgrade. There's been a few games that I've wanted to play, but alas without a Direct X 9.0c compatible card... no go.

So I went out and bought a new ATI Radeon HD 2600XT for my AGP only mother board today. Not exactly top of the line, but the best I can afford right now. Anyways, I came home, installed it, installed drivers, ran it for a bit doing normal stuff without any problems at all. It didn't seem to get too hot but one never knows. I started up Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter to give it a test run on graphics. As soon as the cut scene was over and the game started I heard a pop come from the case and everything went black and silent.

It's still that way, even after I unplugged it and plugged it back in, swapped in the old video card, waited for it all to cool way down and tried again. Still nothing.

Any ideas out there on what I fried? I'd rather not replace the whole system bit by bit just to find that the last thing I replace is what it is. I know that it's got a gig of DDR RAM and the CPU was a Pentium 4 (2.4 Ghz, I think... may be wrong about that though). Mainboard is a Gigabyte P4 Titan, which model I don't remember but if it's important I can probably look it up.

When I plug it back in it makes a clicking noise on the mainboard, but I can't tell exactly where it's coming from. A light on the board does come on, and so do the lights on a gamepad plugged into a USB port.

Any help would be really, really, really appreciated.

Thanks,

so the computer actually turned off and i wont turn on again? sounds to me like the power supply unit might have gone. the reason for this could be upgrading to a more powerful graphics card could have overloaded the psu. do you know the specs off your psu?

It's a 300 watt unit, I know that much. Let's see... other than that seems pretty typical. That may be it actually... I had to plug the new video card into a power source from the psu. Hmm... another friend of mine suggested looking for blown capacitors, but I couldn't find any. Maybe I'll look into getting another power supply and see if that sorts it out.

I love your title!!

Thanks, I thought it was catchy too. :D

So right now I'm waiting on a power source. I live in Turkey, and I can buy one here for over $80 American, or I can spend $20 online and wait for my father-in-law to bring it when he comes back in two weeks. I think I'll save the $60 and wait. :) I'll let you guys know if that fixes is when it gets here.

Okay, so the new PSU just got here. I put it in the tower and plugged everything in. Turned it on and IT WORKED!!! Yea!... well, not quite. First the system check screen wouldn't go on to check RAM. So I unplugged all but one RAM module and then it went booted all the way up into windows. This is the problem: only one RAM slot is working, and only with one RAM card. I even put a new RAM card into the working slot and that doesn't work. So right now I've got a brand new video card, killer sound card, 4 point surround sound, 550 watt's of power, and 512 RAM. Well, I have 1.5 Gigs of ram sitting on my desk here.

Sucks to be me.

Frankly, everything in my tower is bound to the old technology of the motherboard: CPU is Pentium 4, RAM is DDR, video card is AGP... about the only think I'd be able to salvage is the sound card and ethernet card (and I'd probably find a better integrated ethernet card on today's Mobo's). Shipping to Turkey's impossible, prices here are unreasonably high... any idea's about how I can fix this without buying a whole new setup?

Thanks,
Jake
