as i said im new to this and dont even know where to start?
any help would be great thanks.

You can't just build a laptop from scratch like you can a desktop. Laptop components are not universal like desktops.

That being said, I'd go with a high end Asus laptop. They're really good for the money.

If you don't want something like that, then I'd sugguest you go on Dell's website and build yourself an XPS. I'd go with a business machine myself.

And if you have no budget at all, you can design a Falcon Northwest for yourself.

Yeah i think that buying the likes of an Asus will work out more value for money than trying to build one yourself, the components are not as cheap usually as they are for pcs.

You can buy barebones kits from newegg that already have the motherboard, graphics card, and screen. You add processor, HD,optical drive, wireless card and memory. OCZ and MSI both have kits. That is as close to build your own as you will get. Besides the satisfaction of doing it yourself, the only advantage is that the graphics card is more easily upgraded at later date.
