Hi can anybody help? When I put a CD or DVD in my laptop firtsly nothing happens and secondly when I then go to my computer to look for it, its not there! It used to work fine, cant understand it, Please help

Windows 7. Ive just been trying to get it working and realise its only home made cds and dvds that no longer work. They do show up but if i click on them it says its a blank tape. The dvd in question is one i transfered myself from vhs to dvd using a combo. This dvd plays fine on the tv through the combo so I know its not blank.
So its a whole different matter now which I should probably relist unless you can help with this issue too? Thanks for your help :)

So are you saying that the icon for the dvd drive isn't showing up in " my computer"?

If so then do this.

click on the green run now fix it program box on this page or follow the manual instructions for windows 7 farther down the page.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116

A missing dvd drive in my computer is usually caused by corrupt registry entries. That program should fix it.

Thanks again, I tried the link and half way through it came up with the following error message ` an unexpected error occurred, the troubleshooting wizard can`t continue`, I tried it twice. I also tried it on my desktop and it was fine, thanks again John
