help my laptop has died

hi all im new to this forum, im not a comp literate or pretend to understand so this is what has happened. my laptop compaq presario v5000. when you start it up the small windows thing pops up with my name and asks for password even if i put in password or press ok it goes blank and screen goes dark then it happens again and again no programs load up and no program icons will appear on screen. can anyone help. its in winxp and i have no disks for it ie recovery disk
 
Well, sounds like you need to repair/reinstall windows, you you need to get your hands on a disk.

Have you tried booting to safe mode?
