Help!!My wifes new computer is slooooow

Hi guys/gals,
this is my first post.I bought my wife a compaq c501nr Laptop.I/we are very disappointed in its performance.Its so slow.I upgraded the ram to 2gb...still slow.It has a celeron processor and is running vista basics.what can I do to speed up our computer?Can I dump the celeron processor and put in a new faster processor?(duel core?)If so which one?Help me please!!This is driving me crazy!!Here are the full specs on the compaq....thanks bm

With CompaQ being a low end unit to start off with you are rather limited on upgrade options like the 2gb of memory you installed. The HP page for cpu throttling provides some idea on what is recommended to preserve battery life unless plugged into ac. sorry, but this is a rather slow computer to start out with. and you might be able to upgrade prosseser, but it would be cheaperand easier to just sell it and get a new one.

Before HP bought up CompaQ they were one of the worst makes for prebuild systems to even start with. For the money just spent there you could have gone for a Core 2 model which would have seen one large performance increase with only 1gb of memory installed. The option to upgrade the cpu wasn't seen even at HP for any thought on Core 2 models. That's a different socket type there.
