Help! Need a monitor...

My old Dell monitor just quit on me, so I'm looking to upgrade. I'm a very basic computer user, I'd say 30% business 70% web surfing. I am not a gamer and do not use my computer to watch movies, other than the occasional UTube movie. I do however, use my computer for digital photography. So....I would like a widescreen flatpanel, at least 19", with a maximum price tag of $250 (including shipping). Anyone have any suggestions? There was a 19" Dell on sale for $190 that I was considering. Thanks!

Alright, need some expert opinions. Of these three, which one is the best buy and are the more expensive 2 worth it?

Samsung 220WM 22" 1680x1050 5ms $249 pick up
Dell E207WFP 20" 1680x1050 5ms $257 shipped
Dell S199WFP 19" 1440x900 5ms $194 shipped

I've read that with the Samsung I would need to make sure it's an "S" model. Are the 20 and 22" monitors worth the extra $60 for my application? Thanks.

No, for your application, I don't think so. The high contrast ratio Samsung claims (2000-3000:1) is a "dynamic contrast ratio." If you research it, you'll find that their typical contrast ratios are 800:1 while the Dell you've listed is 1000:1. They also each have a 5ms response time, while Samsung uses "RTA overdrive" to achieve an apparent 2ms effect, so they list 2ms. You have to understand that there is nobody regulating what these manufacturers put on the box yet; they can basically sugarcoat it and make up their own measurement systems.

As far as for your digital photography, you should also be looking at colors. I think the Samsung has 16.7 million and the Dells 16.2 million. I haven't verified that.

I just realized you listed an older Samsung model, one I've never personally used. You may just want to go to Best Buy and see how it looks, then go to Staples and take a look at the Dell.
