I suggest drop one of 150GB VelociRaptor, just but both gaming and OS on the same drive.

Video card - 9800GT is "Low end" card. Go for GTX295

Case: Get something like Antec 1200 or COOLER MASTER COSMOS 1000

sound card: Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional/ ASUS Xonar D2X

I would recomend the antec 300, 902 or 1200 for the case, depends on how much you want to spend. Also that CPU is a lot of overkill for just playing games, the i7 920 is quite popular but if you want a little more then the 950 is good. Also that graphics card isnt as good as the rest of your system, i suggest the nvidia gtx 285 to match your system but that too is overkill.

As other have said certain parts (mostly CPU) are way overkill, whereas others are just too plain (GPU).

For such games I dont think you need to spend that much. At what resolution are you playing ? Maybe consider getting a new monitor ?

The i7 920 is plenty for anything you mentionned you would do.

Are you going to SLI ?

If you want more speed from HDD, you could always get 2 velociraptor and RAID them or a SSD like this G.Skill.

As for the GPU, I am not sure but I think the 9800 would do very well for the games you mean to play. If you chose that card because it was cheap and you intend to upgrade soon to a card that is not out yet, I would say its too bad for an idea. Other than that for 3k built with an i7 CPU, it would be crazy to cheap out on the GPU. Look at the GTX 260 (for the cheap side), GTX 275 or GTX 285 for nVidia or the HD 4870 (cheap side), HD 4890 or the HD 4870 X2 for ATI. In general, I find the GTX 275 or the HD 4890 seem to be at a competitive price range.

As far as cases go, its quite personnal. It depends on your needs. Here are a few suggestions. Coolermaster Cosmos S, Antec 1200, Antec P193, Coolermaster HAF 932 or some Lian-Li cases (I don't know them too well, but they are pretty much all high quality cases).

As for PSUs, I don't know Thermaltake too well, but Corsairs and Seasonics are very well regarded. Also, if you choose the Antec 1200 or P193 (or P183), I suggest you look into the Antec CP-850 for a PSU.

For the sound card, well it will depend a lot on what you have to listen to sound, because the integrated sound is quite good.

just get an i7 920. it will overclock to the 975's specs and more. then use that extra 800 or so bucks you save and go crossfire with two 4890's or sli with what ever is good (i don't know crap about nvidia)
