HELP!!!! NEED cd burner software?

wanted to make back ups of some music cd's. any idea how you back up music cd's on a computer? guess they are not mp3? any education on back up music cds appreciated
 
I use iTunes... you don't need an iPod. Just pop a disc in, and it takes care of the rest, including the track list. Couldn't be easier.
 
You can use something like windowsmedia player or winamp to 'rip' your music off the cd's and onto your computer. The files will usually be wma files. But you can convert them to mp3's later if you want. :)
 
confused

if i change wma files to mp3 files, i need a mp3 player? wanted to make back ups for the car radio/cd player cause the cds get scratched. how do you copy wma to wma? thanks,p
 
Oops... my bad... iTunes is only for Windows 2000 or XP. Real Player may be another option. I haven't used it to rip or burn music, but I'm pretty sure it'll let you do both for free.
 
yeah. i tried to download itunes, wont install. any ideas on what software to use? what am i trying to copy and burn? wma files? thats the cd audio type file?im kinda really lost on the format stuff i need to know? thanks, appreciate the time john00.
 
I would tend to use EAC http://www.exactaudiocopy.de/ to do the job, it takes a while but it uses toolame as an external audio encoder and the results are good. It outputs to mp3 or wav, just be sure to use the link to get the track names from freedb so that the tags and filenames are already sorted out.
 
Yeah, RealPlayer would be your best bet. Get the free basic version.

1. Start RealPlayer
2. Insert disc
3. "Save Tracks"
4. Choose songs

To burn

1. "Music & My Library"
2. "Burn a CD"
3. Add mp3s
4. "Burn your CD"
 
clarification of mp3 vs wav

hey, thanksy, wondering if mp3 AND wav are different applications? like mp3 is for a iPOD, or such, and a wav is for the cd player in my car and house home stereo cd player? IMa confused!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Use j0hn00's instructions for use of RealPlayer, the 'to burn' instructions would produce a cd that would play in a regular player.
If you use a burning program like Nero, you can use the 'Audio CD' creation facility and just add tracks that have been ripped to your computer through instructions already provided and that will have similar success in any CD player.
 
probs w/ real player

tried real player, it started writing directory, and locked up. restarted computer, it wrote the directory, but didnt burn songs. how long will/should burning 600mb take?thanks
 
600MB? Here's an example of a typical rip: Coldplay's X&Y @ 192kbps = 86.2MB

Ripping an entire album might take awhile, but you should be able to see the progress meter while your computer is at work.

it seems like it locks up...mouse/cursor wont move...hear the fan running, but not sure about cd. left for 5 minutes? no progress meter...said writing directory? i tried it twice...both cds have small files on therm relating to the songs...but theres no music? not sure whats going on? any suggestions, advice?
