Help need! motherboard vs videocard

Hi,
I really need help. I have bought a HPa6620f computer and I put in an ATI Radeon HD 4870 MB videocard, but the computer can not recognise it. I set for videocard the PCI 16x in the BIOS. There is picture on the monitor, but I cannot see the new videocard as a new hardwer.
Maybe the videocard is not working or the motherboard is not compatible with the videocard?

Please help somebody,

Thanks,

Norbert

have you connected the power supply to the back of the card?

is your power supply up to powering that card?

yes what make and model is it?

its not all about the watts its the amps aswell, have you plug'd the connector into the back of the card?

sorry after re-reading your post i have been going about this the wrong way!

very sorry im just a little tired, so you can use your graphics card but it just hasnt showed as new hardware?

I have picture on the monitor, but...
I cannot instal the driver for the videocard, because the driver cannot recognise the videocard.
I cannot see the videocard in the Device manager.
I have Windows vista home basic system.

did you uninstall the old drivers for your onboard or other gpu?

if so-maybe try flash the bios and go into setting and set video card to pci express again then re-boot see if that does anything

Yes, I did uninstall the onboard driver but the computer still cannot see the videocard, but I have picture, so I do not understand.

lol neither do i!!

i dont think this is a common problem, there are a few gpu guru's in here might be able to help but they will be on later i think!

wonder if its a bios update you need!

you could always try phoning up hp tech team and see what them guys say, you might need a bios upgrade etc

If you have the monitor hooked up to the Video Card and windows boots it has to be able to see the card. Sure your trying to install the right drivers for the right OS?

I tried the CPU-z, but some error happend and the CPU-z cannot run.
I have Vista home basic.

When turn on the computer, I can see the the computer recognized it, but after these I cannot see in the device mamager. I cannot instal the driver for the videocard because that time cannot see any new videocard, just the stupid onboard card what I previously uninstaled, unabled, but every restart reappear.

You do have your monitor hooked up to the card and not the onboard? Go into the Device Manager, right click on the (onboard) and click disable.

If it is hooked up to the Video card and windows is booting, it has to be listed in your Device Manager, even if its called unknown VGA.

Thank you for all,

I went back to the store and replaced the card to a different one and it is working right.

Thank you again
