Help needed ASAP

Hey everyone, I'm relatively out of the loop with computers (especially considering I'm only 19), as I'm more into motocross. Regardless of this, I still appreciate good technology.

I currently own an ASUS Notebook UL80V series. It has norton 360 and Office on it, that's all I need for uni and browsing the net... I also have safari as I like the mac browser.

ANYWAY I'm coming into a bit of money soon and I know a guy who just got TWO ASUS N53Jq-SX's and they are 15.6" screens with blueray and stuff.

He saw how much I liked it and offered to sell one to me for $500. This is a huge bargain. I have a couple of questions, though.

Is there a way I can get my antivirus off my computer onto a new one if I buy it? Same with office.

Is there any chance I could sell my laptop for around $500 to make it basically a straight swap?

Do you guys think this is worth it? I don't know ANYTHING about processors or things of that nature, so I need to know if it's worth dropping $500 on. It's brand new.

I am a university student and I want a computer with a decent amount of longevity. If I can do this deal and move my other lap top, it would definitely be worth it I think.

What are your thoughts everyone? If you guys compare the details of the two computers and it's technical, would you mind going into some detail that a lamen terms so I could understand?

Thanks in advance for any replies!

on the laptop side, id say go for it.

On the program side, you should be able to add your virus protection to your new computer. If it is a disk version, just install it that way. Digital transfers are a little harder, but depending upon the retailer's download policy it is easy. I bought my copy of Norton 2011 from amazon and have it downloaded to all my computers. it was very easy.
For Office, thats harder. If you have an original disk (retail), then it can be loaded to three computers with the 1 key. If it was preinstalled on your lappy, then it would be near impossible to transfer it. However, you could save all of your files and just install Openoffice to your computer, but you would have to be sure to save all your files as a word format.

For the software...you can download the Microsoft office trial and then activate your product from there. I bought Office 2007 a few years back as a download from Microsoft but lost the original installer file. It has worked for me several times when I reloaded the program.

Not sure what program you are running for antivirus...might be something similar far as getting it onto a new computer.

****EDIT****
second line down he states hehas norton 360. thats his antivirus.

Tracking...thanks for that :D I just started my computer, it's early!

Oh ya...I just looked at Norton page, they also have download trials. I would assume putting in your product key would work the same for Norton as well.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

Here's the thing... The norton 360 I have is a digital copy that my father paid for, and installed it on his desktop and his wifes laptop, and you only get to install it with the same key 3 times. So is there any way to get it from my laptop onto my new one?

The same goes with the office I have. It's my GF's and I was the last of the three uses.

I am pretty low on funds being a uni student, and have other things to buy, but I think that for the money, it's a fairly good investment... If you could even call something that depreciates as quickly as technology an investment...

Any ideas? Also, does anyone know if I'd be able to sell my ASUS UL80V for $500? It's almost brand new, and I'm in Australia (which would make a difference as far as the cost of things is concerned). For those of you who know the computer, you know it comes in black, or silver all over. Mines the silver version, if that makes any difference.

ALSO, is there any sort of cord/plug that I can run from my laptop to my LCD to watch blueray movies on my TV? As I mentioned, I'm in Australia, so American cords probably wouldn't work.

I'd agree with the AVG idea. It seems to be a good program.

As for a cord, they are generally all the same no matter where you are. HDMI would be the cord you would need to watch bluray at quality. Just check near you for a HDMI cable.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I have the computer in my possession now and it's a good machine. Setting it up as we speak, (I'm typing on my old laptop).

I'll download AVG tonight.

Thanks again everyone.

That's amazingly good machine. It's powered by i7 processor. The fastest processor on the planet (currently). Upgradeable to 16G of RAM + Latest generation NVIDIA GeForce GT 425M graphics. Best for entertainment & doing job. Brand new price is exceeded $1K.

About your old notebook, $500 was a reasonable price. This is after considering the specification it's have. Regarding the AVG, I think you should try Avira Free. It's free and better than AVG.

Thanks for the input.

OK here's the deal! I want to sell BOTH of these laptops. Why? I want a macbook.

The deal with the N53JQ is this:

I've opened the box, turned it on, put a username into it and that's it. It still has the plastic screen protector and things like that.

There is ONE problem with it... Something that someone can easily fix but I can't. Every time I want to connect to the internet, I have to go to the troubleshooting thing and it has to turn on wireless capability. Fn + F2 doesn't seem to do anything.

This computer is LITERALLY just out of the box, I've had a fiddle with it and I left it alone. I'm sure someone knows how to fix that problem.

NOW, the ASUS UL80V is almost brand new, too. It has been used for a couple of hours. Good computer, it does everything fast and is user friendly. It has NORTON 360 PRO and it's active for almost a year. Microsoft office 2010 and it's good for however long that lasts, I'm not sure.

I want to sell BOTH of these. Someone just bought the N53JQ on ebay, but they say they are from belgium and have zero feedback, so I'm taking it with a grain of salt. It sold for $1,250 AUD.

I want $1,250 AUD for the N53JQ and I want $500 for the ULV80.

Any takers?

I can get pics if you guys want.

*Ahem*

As far as the soft ware goes, just get a flash drive big enough for the files, take the folder the files are in, copy/cut the files into the flash drive. plug the flash drive into your new computer, cut/copy the files again but to the desk top of the new computer. search through the files until you see the files with the description labled install.

as far as the activation code goes, you can download activator torrents from the internet suck as kickasstorrents.com and this should work for the programs. just watch for viruses.

drop norton and get the avg free edition, works fine if not better. cnet.com (search avg free edition.)

as far as the actual computers, i don't know much about asus, except they are good gaming computers, so they probably have good hard and soft ware, therefore uni. compatible.
