Okay, long story short: A few years back my mother bought an IBM NetVista computer package for $400 AUD (this included a monitor, keyboard, mouse, software etc etc) and over the course of me and my bro learning about computers it was taken apart, rebuilt, and finally stripped for parts.
Now me and my bro have our own computers we decided to get it working. All that was missing was some RAM and a CPU. Bought both of them.
Now, original specs of computer:
Pentium 4 CPU, skt 478, 2.66ghz
Intel motherboard. (no number. all that was on it was "Rev. 1.5")
Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (aka, piece of crap)
512MB DDR RAM 184-pin
40GB IDE hard drive
DVD Burner
Also had MS office 2003 preinstalled along with windows XP. Now, the CPU and RAM were removed some time last year. they were long gone so i ordered new ones. Without the CPU & RAM in the machine it would turn on, light up the monitor and sit there. No POST of course. Machine was not reformatted, as i said before the cpu and ram were removed and it sat there for a few months.
The problem now is that once the CPU and RAM were put in, it boots up and sits there. the light on the monitor does not go green and nothing happens.
I know enough about computers to say that it should be working with the missing bits replaced. I ordered the exact same cpu (SL6PE) and 512mb of DDR ram.
Tried reseating both, booting without both, and the screen still doesn't light up. There are speakers plugged in so i would here it if it booted into windows. the lights on the keyboard and mouse light up. but something isn't working.
Anyway, sorry for the essay
but any clues as to why it won't boot?
If all else fails I'll just slap on ebay as an auction and start the bidding at 99c and use whatever it sells for to fund a new PC for ~$300 AUD which is easy enough.
