Help needed installing windows xp

Try taking out the cd while rebooting (like you did before) and we'll see if you still get the:
PXE-E61: Media test failure check cable
PXE-MOF: exiting intel PXE Rom
Boot failure: System Halted error.

Tried this and it is still the same.I still get the error message as above.
My HD is set as master.

This is getting to a pain in the butt:confused: :confused: :confused:

Did you checked the manual for your mobo?
You may try and set the boot order (it is explained how to do that in the manual).
 
Try install 98 (if posible) just to check it'll work.
And maybe if it will work upgrade to XP later?

You could also format disk in other computer, create two partitions, copy all the files from OS CD start comp in command prompt and run install from HD.
 
try what i said before. its the harddrive what lies at problem from what i heard from your problems. you need to remove the partitions and format it to NTFS and check the integ check on all 0-100% tests and not doing it thought the windows xp disc u need to do it outside windows and just in DOS im sure this will reslove the issue and if not it will tell you what lies at fault which will be the HDD if any
 
I have fixed it at last.

I have managed to install windows xp now.
The battery on the motherboard was low and kept loosing my boot up settings. I also changed the hard drive for another one.

What a pain in the backside this has been.
My friend is well pleased.

I think it was both. The battery was low and kept loosing my bios settings as it kept going back to booting from hard drive rather than cd drive. :(

I changed the hard drive to see if it made any difference and it did, so I would say a bit of both.

I should have know the battery was a bit dodgy as It would not change the date setting in the bios until I changed the battery.:o :o

Hey Friend, I had the same problem with an old Pentium 3 (667 Mhz), when it was new I used to install Windows XP several times in that machine and it works, so the last months when I tried the same, the problem you have happens to me, so I thought the best way was to install Windows 98 (or an earlier version of XP) an then upgrade the system to that version an it works. But let me tell you that maybe you have a motherboard problem.

I tested the motherboard and no faults were found.
It is running ok now, the problem is solved for now. (for good I hope until my friend, gets a virus or something else).:D :D :D :D
 
would it be easier to boot from the setup floppies? then use the cd or whatever it is! That helped me when I was having problems
