I have an HP laptop computer and its not working properly for me.

Its a dual boot between ubuntu and microsoft xp home edition and I have the same issue whenever I try to access ubuntu or microsoft.

This is what happens when I select Ubuntu..

Uncompressing Linux... Ok, booting the kernel.

When I try to log into microsoft it just sits at the startup screen
and then it wont go anywhere.. I'm not sure whats wrong or what I should do to figure it out. I'm extremely novice when it comes to computers so please be patient : ) I'm also new to this forum so if any more information is needed I'd be more than happy to provide it. I appreciate the help

Looks like a Hard Drive fail
What is the size of the internal Hard Drive? It may be time to update it

Before purchasing another drive, try this simple idea (works half the time)
  • Turn off the laptop
  • Remove the power adaptor
  • Detach the main laptop battery
  • Hold the ON button in for 30secs
  • Plug the power adaptor back in
  • Turn on the laptop
If it fixes the fault, then shutdown normally and refit the battery.
All done :)
