Hello Guys, first post on here:),

a friend of mine brought his computer to look at,
the problem that he explained having is no signal to the monitor,
I turned the comp on and there is no power up at all ,
checked the power supply - dead, replaced the power supply, the system turns on however still no video signal, this is a cheap INTEL D915GLVG , no pciexpress, no agp port, just a video on board......, I suspect is the board, I tried to reset the bios with the jumper - done checked the video cable works good, checked a different monitor - not working ither
Memory good, hard drive working, my question is could that be the CPU or is this definitely, the motherboard ??

I concluded with buddy of mine that it was the main board, well
I went yesterday and got the new board and new power supply,
after about 20 min I was ready to launch the system, it did start up fine,
but at the initial boot up it reports there is no keyboard ????? sorry but WTF?? well I turn the damn thing off, recheck the mouse and keyboard plugs , all looks fine, well start the system again and the same message shows up - No keyboard found ???, that just about made me throw this system out the window , well I reboot again and bang I hear a short, and the monitor does not detect any signal and there is a ticking noise coming from the board , well I think you know by now whats up, the board got cooked......
I am just confused I have never came accross situation like this one, I got another cpu from my main station checked it on that board that blew and it doesn't work, the board is making a ticking sound when the cpu sits in the core.

I am thinking that may be that is the original cpu at fault ??? could a faulty cpu damage the main board ???? ,
The board is new the ram is new, power supply 20 pin new, the old part is the Celeron CPU only ... what do you guys think ?????
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers !

Sounds like it's not worth the effort. have you friend get a new board and CPU for $100 and get it up and running again with more up to date parts.

Indeed, it can't be a USB keyboard. USB will only work after windows is booted, it must be PS/2

Doesnt have anything to do with Windows, if its not enabled by default you just need a PS/2 keyboard to get into the bios to enabled USB keyboard support.

it shouldve come with a ps/2 adapter if it was usb...if not theyre cheap, but...at this point, just get a new cpu and mobo...it doesnt sound like its even worth the effort. but it WOULD be interesting to find out what the problem was, i think it might have been a series of problems rather than just this or that.

thanks guys,

it was the retarded power supply, it was some cheap garbage from china,
it said it was 430 wats 20 pin, however when tested it was only 250 lol,
also the keyboaed was shot had bent pins causing the initial short,

thanks for the kind help as of now the system boots, but I can not get it to run the installed win xp, it keeps asking me to choose the mode , safe mode, start windows normaly, etc. after any selection the system just reboots,
I guess I am gonna have to reinstall windows over again ehh ??

Back in the days I switched old boards in like pentium 2 runing the same windows of the same hard drive, these days everything I guess needs the extra chipset drivers.

Do I got to reinstall windows??

thanks.

Those cheap power supplies wil get ya, you may have to reinstall windows if you can't get it to boot. Sounds like a corrupted file..
